Extending WiFi signal

The issue is How do you connect a second router and extend your wifi range?

The Outline is:
  • First the new wifi router needs to be connected to a LAN port on the original router --the wiring can be obtrusive to many.

  • Once connected, the second router is set to the SAME SSID (and even the same password), but be sure to use a different channel so the two don't interfere with each other.
The specifics:
  • Disable DHCP in the new wifi router
  • set it's IP address to the high end of router#1 range -- line x.x.x.254 -- so you can still make changes w/o disturbing the setup.
  • change the admin passwd and disable remote management port 80808
  • save the settings
Now cable Router#1-lan to any Router#2-lan, leaning the WAN(uplink) empty.
