I wasn't saying that. The first and second paragraphs are separate, hence the period and space lol.
I understand that. The second paragraph inly exists to provide context on why it's a good mesh of services. Even goes on highlight how it does exactly that. My counterpoint is that while it's been presented as the failsafe to allow manageable delivery to remote locations, it isn't being used for only that. It's the general purpose final delivery leg of pretty much anything not requiring signature service.

That's exactly what I said in my first sentence of the comment you quoted.

" Yep, FedEx SmartPost and UPS Surepost both transfer the parcel to the USPS for final delivery. "

Then you replied

" It isn't transferred to USPS for only rural or remote. I live in a 600k+ metro area and UPS hands them off for final delivery here by the postal service. "

You essentially disagreed with what I said and then went on to say exactly what I did in my first sentence.

You then went on about how an single anecdotal example in the last week is an example of poor service. What you didn't seem to consider is the recent cutbacks by a Trump appointee to the service have create multiple reports of issues from food rotting in sorting centers and mishandled delivery that did not occur before. Typical republican tactic, throw a wrench in the works and then complain about it not working properly.

I'm not saying their service was immaculate before but these example of people pointing fingers after they have been purposefully sabotaged is ridiculous. Let's all be honest here as well, had the USPS not been required to pre-fund medical 75 years in advance they would have 2.1 billion more free cashflow to improve service, a requirement imposed by, big surprise, congressional republicans of the time.

Private companies will never serve every american because it isn't profitable. It's amazing to me these attacks on something as fundamental and intrinsic to the US as the postal service.

I understand this is a tech website and this technically is tech news, but do you guys have any idea what the comment section is going to end up looking like under this article?

Yep. Let's get started!

MAGA: mail all goes away

Anyone who is OK with, or openly support the "Protests" during the Stay at Home: Lockdown, should definitely go to Public Polling Places and Vote. Given that there is early voting in many cities, there's no need to put it off until the last day.

I would never leave it up to the USPS to handle my vote. I get neighbors mail and packages regularly. Not instilling any confidence they can handle a National scale vote.

I've done that plenty since I live in one of five states that does voting by mail... and it's been working perfectly fine. A majority of states allow absentee ballots which are... mailed... If mail is so insecure, why even allowing it? If mail is so insecure, why is the president himself casting his mail-in ballot? If mail is so insecure, why is Trump plastering his face on the North Carolina absentee ballot request forms?

Listen to his speeches NOT CHOPPED UP versions. Listen to him at his rallies and you will find out you don't know anything about Trump.

It’s not like we haven’t heard him speak. Let’s be real. The man can barely formulate a coherent thought or stay on any given topic. There are 330 million different opinions in this country and there is really nothing about his that is particularly interesting, insightful, or even truthful, so why should anyone waste their time listening to even more of his drivel?

The issues Trump raises are largely irrelevant and the solutions he proposes are stupid. He had his shot. And blew it spectacularly. Let’s get the clown out before he does any more damage than he already has.

Four New Jersey men were just charged with illegally casting hundreds of fraudulent mail-in ballots ... and in their latest election, 10% of all mail-in ballots were rejected, disenfranchising ten percent of all voters.

A majority of states allow absentee ballots which are... mailed... If mail is so insecure, why even allowing it?
A majority of states do NOT send mail-in ballots unsolicited. They only send to voters who specifically request them, adding at least a minimal level of security.

If mail is so insecure, why is the president himself casting his mail-in ballot?
There's an easy one. Florida doesn't send unsolicited ballots, for one. And Trump is not returning his ballot through the mail; it's being taken directly to the election board office.

What you didn't seem to consider is the recent cutbacks by a Trump appointee to the service have create multiple reports of issues...
Sorry to interrupt your diatribe with a few facts, but the USPS has been removing mailboxes and mail sorting machines for many years before Trump even took office:

A 2009 news report observed that the Postal Service had been removing the boxes nationally at the rate of more than 60 per day. According to a BBC report, there were 175,000 boxes as of July 2009. Since then, the rate of decline has diminished considerably. Over the past two fiscal years, some 7,750 boxes have been removed — about 15 per day.

from food rotting in sorting centers to...
By the way, mail sorting machines don't sort packages, those containing food or otherwise.

Putin’s obese glove puppet is now so certain he’ll lose he’s doubling down on his insane electoral fraud cr@p as the only way to try and stave off the route in November. Hopefully the military will be called in to frogmarch the criminal straight out the Whitehouse to a Supermax on November 4th

I have a legitimate question that I welcome anyone to offer insight into. Is there an outcome or scenario in November that doesn't result in absolute chaos?

Trump is not perfect, but he is by far better than any other candidate. In this election and the last one. Learn who your enemy is. The current demacratic party will insure all our freedoms are taken away.

Sorry, brother. I try my best to deal with the facts as I see and hear them. I am not one to get delusional over a political candidate and I certainly don't fawn over them like trumpanzees do. I know it is ingrained in Cons to hate anyone that calls your bluff, but honestly, Frosty the Snowman would be a better leader than trump.

The current demacratic party will insure all our freedoms are taken away.

That's interesting, coming from a man that favors the party that is actually allowing it to happen.

I'm sure this decision by Facebook will not be easy and I'm sure they are ready for the fallout, but nobody deserves it more than trump.

Throughout the period of mass protests in the wake of George Floyd's death, very few cared about spreading Covid-19, or at least that is what I observed from your U.S. garbage media at the time.
Remember that this is the same media who is causing permanent harm to tens of millions of U.S. children through their campaign to keep schools closed, despite the fact that Covid is, for children, far less deadly than the common flu.

In addition to the developmental harm from a year of lost school, there is the emotional damage from long-term isolation. The CDC has just released data showing 25% of young people have seriously considered suicide during the lockdown, a shocking increase.

I've used the postal service to ship thousands of packages. Not a single one has been lost and only 4 have been late (I can remember each time because they are so rare).

What you are saying about it are just plain false. I get 2 day shipping at a lower price than FedEx and UPS. They typically charge 2-3 times the amount for the same shipping speed. No, unlike what you said, anyone who values speed uses USPS. It wasn't until trump appointed his lackee to dismantle equipment did things start slowing down.

Stop regurgitating fox news and actually use the service before criticizing it.

The Post Master General debunked your whole Conspiracy theory on National TV. You can no longer try to use CNN fake news talking points. More mailboxes were removed under Obama, than Trump. They have the exact number.

Stop being led halt-truths by CNN... they are only telling you Half the story, on purpose.

It wasn't until trump appointed his lackee to dismantle equipment did things start slowing down.
Facts matter. This is from a 2016 article on the USPS. Based on your previous postings, I'll point out that Trump was not in office at the time:

"...In Q2 2016, 93 percent of 2-day First Class mail was delivered on time, compared to 90 percent during the same period last year. About 80 percent of 3-to-5 day mail was delivered on time, compared to 63 percent during the same period last year ... the results are still below the annual targets...

The issues surrounding service standards and performance for delivery times have been a subject of controversy and concern for several years, going back to 2011, when the Postal Service first announced that it intended to lower the standards as part of its Network Rationalization plan...

In June 2015, the American Postal Workers Union took the Postal Regulatory Commission to court over its decision to dismiss the union’s complaint that the Postal Service was failing to meet even the new slower service standards..."

Note the Network Rationalization plan which began long before Trump took office is why the USPS today is removing mail boxes and mail sorting machines, though at a significantly reduced pace than they were removing them back then. USPS statistics have actually improved over the past couple of years, despite what CNN is telling you.

Facebook should be shut down... and only real verified Adults allowed back on, with flag of country.

That way you dont have angry Europeans, or fake communist wumao pretending to voice Citizen concerns, etc.

You can rest assured that Trump intends to stay in power, using whatever gestapo tactics it takes. He is laying the foundation now, for declaring the election an illegitimate fraud, if he loses. He'll then launch an army of lawyers at the situation, in an attempt to stall, and ultimately invalidate the election, and hold on to power. If he loses, it'll take a mob to physically remove him and his crooked cronies from the White House. And if that's what's required, count me in.

Trump is a mentally unstable, self absorbed coward, a bully, a malignant narcissist, and an utterly incompetent dictator wannabe. Want proof? Just look at those he admires most. They are all murderous thugs - Putin, Kim Jong Il, etc. I'm beginning to wonder whether anything short of civil war can get Trump and his thugs out of office for good.
