First time PC build

Please don't read newegg reviews...

You know that "higher graphics" games are dependant on the graphics card right?
No? Ah, well, they are.
On the other hand, I'd get on of the phenom II's depending on what you're looking for.

Don't by one of the USB dongles, PCI cards are much better.

Why do you think i mentioned "as long as you have a decent graphics card". READ before you type buddy.

Buster, it pretty much a given that anybody ordering a board tomorrow, will be getting a board that the memory standard is DDR3.

I have 5 computers, every one of which is different. Point being, If I wanted to recommend a system based on one of them, I have to hurt one of the others feelings. Better we should stick to making our suggestions based one the original poster's concept, and simply giving guidance on a part by part basis, and then only if it's needed.

As HK pointed out, we don't really know the budget, or the intended usage of this machine.

As to running on about 2GBs of RAM, that's really a wonderful amount for 32 bit XP, but 4GB is the sweet spot for Windows 7 64 bit. Windows 7 64 bit, is really the OS a builder today should consider, XP is pretty much over.

And Buster, I have a final question, exactly who makes desktop add in video card chipsets, other than Nvidia or ATI?

I have windows 7 64 bit running 2 gigs ram. it runs just fine. faster than i'll ever need. You know what.... don't listen to me, listen to the captaincranky *** and overspend on a pc. its cool.

I'll have to give it you on this one though. now that i think about it, there really isn't manay companies that make graphics cars other than nvidia and ATI.

Sorry for taking your time, I'll let you get back to your world of not knowing what a budget is.

PS. what the Hell are you going to do with 5 computers anyway? NERD ALERT!!

Thanks guys..For now I've decided on the Gigabyte GA-770T..its got USB 3.0, Digital audio, RAID, and plenty of PCI slots for expansion. It seems like this is the best bang for the buck for my price range. $69 with mail in rebate until the end of the month.
Sounds good, you'll need a discreet graphics card. I hear the 5570 is a good card for $70, but you might not need something like that.
Though you haven't specifically said anything about what you're going to use the computer for, the Athlon II X3 445 and the 4GB of OCZ should be good.
Let me know if that's over budget.

Oh don't worry; I just wanted to participate in bashing you.
BTW some people here have a job and work with computers for a living.

so, this is a bashing game.. I thought it was a place to help others out. look i'm new at this too, and am just in here to learn get a piece of knowledge. Why the bash. I have a job too and am aspiring to work on computers too. never mind... thanks for the help I absolutely appreciate it.

See Buster, you didn't really post to "help", this is a bunch of nonsense, opinion, and an exercise in telling us all about "Y-O-U". What works for >>> YOU, what >>> YOU have, what >>>>YOU will ever need, what YOU think should be spent, ad naseum. YOU make a half dozen posts, and appoint YOURSELF the "Budget Police". If you started spouting this stupidity to someone who uses a computer for work with digital imaging or video, they'd tell you that 4GB isn't enough, but they're not, "YOU", now are they?

I'll have to give it you on this one though. now that i think about it, there really isn't manay companies that make graphics cars other than nvidia and ATI.
OK, the verb, "isn't", should be the plural form "aren't". I spell "manay", "many", (so does the dictionary). And nobody really makes "graphics cars", for desktop computers. You worry about the money, and I'll worry about trying to interpret the broken English, that know-it-all juvenile delinquents such as yourself, habitually inflict on me

Sorry for taking your time, I'll let you get back to your world of not knowing what a budget is.
By the way you keep reiterating, "budget, budget, budget", it's starting to sound as though you're the one with the problems with budget. Oh, there's no need to apologize for taking up my time. I should thank you, for affording me this opportunity to attempt to illuminate the, dim, dark, and self centered world of "busterface". (Did you like how I worked, "afford" into that sentence)?

PS. what the Hell are you going to do with 5 computers anyway? NERD ALERT!!
This should be patently obvious, I don't think I get by without having 4 more than you! I build another when the technology changes, or when I simply can't figure out what else to give myself for Christmas. Don't worry though, I always stay within my budget(s), which, (like specifications), are "subject to change without notice"!

Well, don't feel bad buster, you actually did help me. I forgot about my laptop, which would make the count 6 computers, it's been sitting for a while, and I'm pretty sure it could use a good charging. (I only use it to show photos when I'm out of the house). I thought I'd share that with you, since YOU seem to think you're entitled to an explanation. Have a nice da-ay. :haha:

Awe, i must have must have gotten under your skin and offended you. really, making fun of my grammar. come one kid, grow up and don't for get to tuck in your "6" computers at night.

Gee... You Really DO Think You Know you know it All....

Awe, i must have must have gotten under your skin and offended you. really, making fun of my grammar. come one kid, grow up and don't for get to tuck in your "6" computers at night.
Don't forget to have your mommy tuck you it, and take your Ritalin.

Buster you just worry about your comupter, the one that does everything >>>YOU<<< need. Forget about the rest of us. After all, this is all about YOU. We care about you. We want all our computers to be exactly like yours, because Buster knows best. Maybe I should upload my bank statement, so you can have a look, manage my finances or something. Now, if you really wanted to help, you could dress up as Santa Claus, let me sit on your lap, and tell you that I want another computer for Christmas. Or maybe be a clown for my birthday.

Oh, by the way, there are many members here that have multiple machines, either for family, work, recreational or business reasons. Some are simply enthusiasts, or collectors, if you will. Point being, if you'd like to be successful as a mouthy, little, know it all internet troll, (and you've given every indication that this is so), you should probably consider your audience, before you start running you mouth.

>>News Flash<<

So it would seem then, that there many other "nerds" here, all of whom I'm fairly certain you've alienated with your "nerd alert" statement. And all of whom, (like myself), I'm also fairly certain, have absolutely no inclination whatsoever to explain to, "busterface", exactly what they need, want, or use these "excess" computers for.

@Busterface, please stop with the trolling.

Another 2GB of RAM doesn't count as overspending.

And cap's question was not about add-in GPUs, but integrated GPU chipsets.

Lastly, you should mind your own ****ing business about why anyone would have x number of PCs; it's not your choice to make, and it's not your money that's been spent. Most of us (including myself) have at least 2 PCs we use for various different tasks.

I think we've had enough bashing and flaming for one thread don't you all think? Let's re-focus on the OP's questions. Thanks.

Bust Her Face.....Get IT...>????

I think we've had enough bashing and flaming for one thread don't you all think? Let's re-focus on the OP's questions. Thanks.
I don't know if you've been keeping up with this thread, but the OP's issue has been successfully dealt with, and we've moved on!

As far as being willing to listen quietly to noobie, incompetent, juvenile delinquent trolls, I patently refuse.

As far as Techspot being willing to accept a pseudonym of "busterface", I honestly believe you need to rethink that.

This is just another clown passing through like "Sirthickandhard", look that one up. (About 2006).

Yes, captaincranky, I have been keeping up with the thread. As far as I can tell all of the OP's questions have not been answered yet. The OP originally inquired about a motherboard and graphics card. I see where he decided on a motherboard but not a graphics card yet. Perhaps the OP has decided upon a graphics card but I didn't see him articulate his choice.

Are you sure? He mentions a graphics card but I read it as the one in his failing notebook.

The OP hasn't left the site, and he's still being attended to. He will be looking to buy a VGA soon I suppose, as the board he's selected doesn't present an IGP "solution".

I linked a sale GT-240 for him anyway. as to whether that will prove sufficient, or needs to be reassessed and upgraded, I suppose time will tell.

The vid card issue IS with the laptop, but I thought that was an in passing comment, as to why the desktop is being built. "My laptop is giving up, I'm going to build a desktop". Sort of like that.

Actually IDK if he realizes that the board he's picked out doesn't have onboard graphics, but I think / hope he does.

Yes, I saw that you suggested a graphics card to the OP. I guess if the OP wants further graphics card advice, he'll ask.

I've been laying low while you guys have been battling out..I appreciate Captain's gigabyte suggestion and have found a board that will suit my needs. I do realize that it does not have onboard video so I've been poking around newegg for a good budget card..like sub $80. I know I can't get much in that price range but if you guys have any suggestions let me know. I'm always open to suggestions for any part of the pc..I haven't bought anything yet and if anyone has ideas feel free to let me know.
