In brief: NetherRealm is indeed rebooting its Mortal Kombat franchise. After posting a teaser on social media, the developer has shared a cinematic trailer for Mortal Kombat 1 launching on September 19.
The trailer does not show any actual gameplay footage. According to an FAQ on the game's landing page, Mortal Kombat 1 will introduce a "reborn Mortal Kombat Universe that has been created by the Fire God Liu Kang." The title will feature reimagined versions of iconic characters, a new fighting system, game modes, and fatalities, as well as an immersive story campaign.
Mortal Kombat 1 is set to launch on September 19, 2023, and will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and on the PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. Pricing is set at $69.99 for the standard edition, $109.99 for the premium edition, and $249.99 for the collector's edition.
Blizzard has announced that BlizzCon, its annual gaming convention, is returning to an in-person format. The event has not been held in person since 2019 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The event was canceled outright in 2020 and 2022 and held virtually online in 2021.
BlizzCon 2023 will take place at the Anaheim Convention Center on November 3-4. Blizzard said it will share more information regarding tickets, cosplay, and other details next month but interested parties can go ahead and book hotel accommodations now.
