A Windows 11 speed boost is coming as soon as next month, along with a taskbar you can finally move

All of the "you're using windows wrong" and blaming the user from the Windows zealots is getting tiring. No I should not have to run a bunch of scripts, dig through the registry, or tear out half of the OS that Microslop forced upon everyone in the first place to get a somewhat usable OS again, especially not in a paid commercial operating system.
Linux is easier to set up from a fresh install than Windows is, and it seems like M$ has finally realized they're losing to the various Linux distros and Valve's Steam OS, especially in RAM utilization.
But I'll believe M$ is genuinely listening to their users and actually fixing things when I see it.
Yep, you're right on point! However, I want my operating system to do what "I" want it to do. So, sometimes I have to do what I have to do to achieve that end. I too run Linux, dual boot on my almost 15 yr old Acer laptop, running Windows 7 Pro. Linux is NOT an easy operating system to use, expecially when computered to how easy Windows is. Microsoft, does NOT care about the end user, (or those who made them what they are today) only as much money as they can get their hands on. Kinda like Google, or MacDonald's...

I was referring to the other person saying people are being crybabies for complaining about Windows, but I don't mind making some tweaks to Windows to fit how I want to use it, though it's gotten completely out of hand with W11.

Moving the taskbar isn't a massive effort, however it isn't something most people are aware of, the need for third party tools to get the OS to behave any way other than how MS wants has become too limiting, since MS can just break those third party tools from working in another update.
I've always used Windows and it has been the most comfortable OS to use with how every application and game I use works, Linux has taken some time to get accustomed to, accepting some games won't work, learning alternative options, even having to find alternative hardware monitoring apps, but it is doable if you can take the time to learn. Linux definitely can be difficult, mainly if you are used to Windows only applications, but W11 has been the breaking point where people are willing to try anything else that might be less of a pain to use.

I'm doubtful things are really going to get fixed, because there hasn't been any care about the user in over a decade, first with W8 and the UI no one wanted, then W10 with forced telemetry and ads. It feels more like MS is placating to enthusiast users to keep a near monopoly on the OS market.
I think MS should've just ditched W11 a long time ago and went back to Windows 7 as a base.

That's strange. I've been using Windows for decades, and never once have I had to "run a bunch of scripts, dig through the registry, or tear out half of the OS" to get a usable OS. Life is short - quit being so OCD. Delete the junk you easily can, and use the OS the way it was designed and get on with your life.

Brotha, just change the taskbar alignment to "left" (instead of "center") in the taskbar settings, and it will behave exactly like the Windows 10 one.
Not quite. If I open Chrome, for example, then it'll turn the small chrome icon into a taskbar chrome icon, but the small icon is gone, and if I open multiple apps in different orders they are all over in random spots on the taskbar, not always in the same spot like in a toolbar in Win10.

Windows 11 runs better than 10 today, so I don't understand how you like WIndows 10 but hate 11. They made just as many fckups with 10 over time. MacOS had multiple issues too over the years. No OS is perfect but a power user can always tweak an OS to their liking, which is what I always do, regardless of OS. I never just use stock install.

I would never trade my custom 11 install (with tweaks, adjustments and debloated) over any Windows 10 version today. Games and applications is optimized for 11 these days. Drivers too. I use newer hardware, and wants peak performance from it. Nvidia/AMD/Intel has full focus on 11, and little to no focus on 10 which is EOL / dated.

I would also rather run Linux than MacOS. I don't hate Apple, I use iOS on multiple devices but MacOS was never for me. So locked down. Feels like poor mans Linux. Hell for advanced users with updates that just force **** upon you (huge UI changes for example).

As I said, ran MacOS for like 6-8 years on a MacBook Pro. MacOS got worse and worse. Slower and slower (even with an i7, 16GB and 1TB M.2 SSD), Apple dropped support for the machine eventually. Linux was the savior. Machine got lightning fast again.

So you can hate Microsoft, or 11, or what you do. Doubt MS cares much. Reality is that Microsoft still has massive marketshare and MacOS and Linux has like 10% total.

Luckily, we are free to use what we want. People that play games and buy new hardware, typically uses Windows 11 because this is where the makers of said hardware, has 99% of their focus. They know their target audience runs 11 in pretty much all cases.

You can literally change 11 to your liking. Any advanced user does this and have done this since 11 came out. My 11 has zero AI, zero Copilot, zero unneeded background tasks, fully and completely optimized to perform better than LTSC version (while not being stuck at 24H2). It is not exactly rocket science, if you are actually an advanced Windows user.
You either work for Microsoft or have drunk way too much of their Kool-Aid. Windows 11 is hot garbage and really shouldn't even be called an OS. Any Linux distribution is smoother and more usable than Win 11.

My reason for not wanting to use Win11 has little to do with the desktop experience. It's more to do with the fact that M$ has decided that I have to use Secure boot and TPM 2.0
Every other version it was a simple upgrade and with some tweaking I had the OS like I wanted. I could even do this with Win10 and am currently using openshell for my menu, because I hate using any tile based one. It takes up too much room.
But I need to reconfigure my entire system this time to do a simple upgrade? What makes it worse is that in many ways it's still Win10 under the hood.

Most people don't understand what TPM 2.0 is capable of. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trusted_Platform_Module
The worst being Remote Attestation. With its most benign use it acts as a much more secure DRM and anti-cheat. But it can essentially lock a user's ability to use any software M$ and it's partners don't want you to use. Want to have your only source of software be the Windows store? Or get forced to pay for an upgrade to a perfectly good piece of software, and if you don't you're locked out? RA can do just that.

I do not want to hand complete control of my systems to M$, period. They've shown in the past and currently with AI slop why doing that is a foolish move for a non-enterprise user. M$ has already experimented with white/black listing software sources and IMHO one of the things holding back any roll out is the fact that they don't have the majority of users on the OS. Jailbreaking a phone is bad enough, I don't want to have to jailbreak my desktop.

I use Windows and Linux daily. 20 years of Linux experience. Worked 10 years running huge linux clusters for clients. Let me guess, you are a Linux beginner?

Tweaked 11 is far better than 10. If you don't agree you have no experience and no clue on how to actually optimize and tweak Windows. I bet you guys don't even do custom debloated installs.

So fun seeing tinfoilhat guys acting like Linux is the answer to everything, yet most of you don't know how to actually use Linux and when it comes to troubleshooting, you scratch your head.

Tons of Linux distros are pure garbage. Fragmentation is Linux biggest enemy and have been for decades. Most people jump distros like they change underpants and never learn core Linux. Most Linux users who claim Linux is good, installs a beginner distro and don't know anything about Linux, never update it, a garbage install.

Sorry to be blunt about it but I get the strong impression you're trying to make me upgrade W10 to W11 and also avoid MacOS.
I do not understand why you'd want this nor do I want to understand.
Have a funky day..
Not really, I don't care what other people use, at all.

Reality is that MacOS and Linux combined don't even sit at 10% desktop OS marketshare.

Where Linux does insanely well, is for servers. I would never run Linux as primary OS on my gaming PC, would be utterly pointless, as it is a high-end PC made for gaming. I run arch on my laptops and debian on my server.

So yeah, Linux is awesome, but mostly for servers.

MacOS, I have zero interrest in anymore.

It's not a speed boost. Windows does not run smoother.
I relies on making your hardware work harder, even if it's by small bumps.

So it's rather a power consumption increase.

I hear this often, but will never understand it. I've been using Windows since version 3.0, and 10 and 11 since they were initially released. I use 11 full time for work, both in the office and at home, and I have never had a single issue, despite dozens of hours of use a week for years. "The problem isn't the arrow. It's the archer".

Pathetic that it takes them so long to add so little new to the OS nowadays. Even more tragic is that most the UI was taken out and now they are just putting back features that were present 15 years ago.

Nope, the problem is Microsoft programmers and their lack of true skills. PS been using Windows since one, always on a test bench, and 3.1 for workgroups was their pinnacle. It's been all downhill since then.

Ooo I'm all a quiver for two more features I don't need!! Never missed the movable taskbar and see no need for the speed boost. Personally find Windows 11 very responsive, not so impatient that waiting a second or two for a window to open is some crisis.

I think Windows 7 was their pinnacle. The OS has just gotten more cluttered and disorganized since then. But, Windows 11 is stable - it just works.

Explorer patcher moved my taskbar when I installed the OS. Why would you wit for M$ to restore broken functionality. I cannot even tell I'm on 11 anymore, it's almost exactly like 10 now in all areas.
I use Explorer Patcher with Open Shell Menu. It makes the OS livable.
