Getting blue screen 'your system is infected'

Looking for help...I am running windows XP and get a blue screen with an error message in a black box on the center of the screen saying ' Your system is infected' and that spyware has been detected. I also get a red circle with an X in it on the taskbar on my screen.

I ran AVAST and AD-AWARE and corrupted files are removed but I still get the error message and red circle.

I ran Trend Micro HijackThis and received the following log....Can anyone tell me how to correct? Thanks in advance.

The most likely cause of what you describe is caused by a 'rogue antivspyware':

It is a hidden process here:
"C:\Program Files\HomeAntivirus2010\HomeAntivirus2010.exe

Rogue Spyware Programs are an optional removal.

Some anti-spyware programs are considered 'rogue' for the following reasons:

• They use deceptive means to get the user to buy their program
• The programs give 'false positives' meaning an entry is presented as 'bad' when is usually is not.
• Their scanning techniques are not thorough and their databases may not be current.
• There is no privacy policy

Please reopen HijackThis to 'do system scan only'. Check the following entry for removal:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winupdate86.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\winupdate86.exe

Close all Windows except HijackThis and click on "Fix Checked"

Boot into Safe Mode

• Restart your computer and start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard.
• Select the Safe Mode option when the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, and then press ENTER.

Go to the Control Panel> Add/Remove Programs> find Home Antivirus 2010 and uninstall it.

Using Windows Explorer: Right click on Start> Explore> My Computer> Local Drive (C)> then go to Tools> Folder Options> View tab> Check 'show hidden files and folders'> Uncheck 'hide protected system files- Recommended'> Apply> OK> Programs>> Find the folder for Home Antivirus 2010 and do a right click> Delete.

Go back and Uncheck 'show hidden files and folders' and recheck 'hide protected system files- recommended.'

Close Windows Explorer. Reboot the computer.

Now begin with the steps and run Malwarebytes and Superantispyware. Attach the logs from those 2 programs.

Rescan with HijackThis and Paste the new log in like you did this one. That saves considerable searching time.

I'll check the logs and determine what's next.

Bobbye...thanks, the procedure you gave me worked...no more blue screen error or red circle with an x through it however now my sound will not work on my computer. I checked all the device settings and everything is fine.

The first thing to check when there is no sound is the Mute button. We all have a gremlin in our systems who likes to push the Mute button without asking us.

Right click on the Sound icon in the Notification area> Open Sound and Volume Controls> check to make sure there is no checkmark in the Mute box, usually on the left side. IF you do not have the sound icon in that area:

I'm not comfortable not seeing the other 2 logs. Often one problem will be fixed, but that does not assure the system is clean. the HijackThis log does not show any malware.

Still no sound

I checked my sound settings and all ok and I am not on mute. Here are the logs....still no volume...please help.

Okay, you still have some adware, but I don't think that is the problem. Please let me know the model of your Dell Computer> Control Panel> System> Properties tab will have the information at the top.

Description: SoundMax integrated sound. Required if you have custom settings for your sound, such as effects and environments

Please check the Device Manager for errors- yellow triangle with black ! mark:
Click on Start> Run> type in devmgmt.msc.> OK> Expand both the Sound and system sections> look for errors.

I'm not very experienced on hardware but we need to check this.

There is one virus remaining on your computer (Probably is not the problem for loss of sound):

Once that is deleted you are all good.
