Hi guys, I really need some help here :p I will be getting a 4K Freesynch monitor for Christmas and I will need to upgrade my card. I know that GeForce doesn't support Freesynch but 1080Ti is considerably faster than Vega 64 and since I cant find anywhere if Vega 64 can run on my motherboard maybe someone here can tell me if they have 1080Ti running on non UEFI motherboard? I could run it for a sometime and then upgrade my whole system :)

I am going to say no to that but before I fully say no.
Provide us your motherboard specs first so we can verify it.

Hi, my motherboard is an Asus Rampage II Extreme with the latest bios 1.2 I think. MSI GTX980Ti worked fine with it but ASUS Strix RX480 did not. I emailed EVGA and they said I will need UEFI to run their cards so I think is depends on manufacturer

Its not going to work out for you, your mobo has pci-e 2.0
The 1080ti from evga wants 3.0 interface, if you popped it in and got it to boot.
It will probably stop at the bios post screen and won't go any further.

Check the spec tabs to see why it won't work.
Check this thread at tomshardware, you ever thought about doing a complete rebuild before thanksgiving ?

Think about it some and tell us what you want to do prices are still low until next friday.
Then prices will start to sky rocket and stay that way till the second week of january next year.

Hmm that doesn't sound good. I would rather avoid upgrading everything right now. Do you think I could use other manufacturers 1080Ti? I mean Steve got his 1080Ti working on X58 motherboard :)

I'm sure it would work but I would ask steve directly how he got his going and what specs he is using.
To be on the safe and sure side, I wouldn't bother trying if other people have confirmed it not working with proof.
I know you want this card badly, considering the new monitor thats coming for xmas.
Either buy the card now and save it for a after christmas build or go with something more compatible.

If you get the free psu option, that would be a great way to your new future system build.
Meant to ask you what are you other pc specs, cpu, ram ssd/hdd ?

My full PC spec
Be Quiet Dark Base 700 Case
Be Quiet Silent Loop 360
Be Quiet Straight Power 850
Asus Rampage II Extreme
Intel Xeon X5675 4.6Ghz
12GB DDR3 1850MHZ
Radeon R9 290X 4GB
240GB SSD
1TB HDD
So not a bad rig, it would be ok for 4K gaming if I could get that 1080Ti working on it :)

Nice computer system, but that cpu..... :(

Well then lets try one last thing, I want you to go by techist and register please.
http://www.techist.com/forums/members/pp-mguire/
Make a thread there and query ppmguire, ask him directly if that should work.
If you want to you can link your thread to him directly.
Let me know if you will do this, if not you need to go ahead buy the card and test it out yourself.

Yeah I will get that done :)

Well when it sells off, do you want me to build you in a intel rig with the parts I choose ?
Or since you know how to build a pc already, do you want to gather the parts and have someone critique it ?

For the moment you have good options if you decide to go with msi.
Use whatever sales money you have and apply it to the cpu first and mobo.
>_> those parts are the most costly besides the higher end gpus. =/

I live in UK and in here Intel is not worth it due to the supply shortages plus at 4K cpu won't matter as much so this is what I'm planning to go with
Gigabyte X470 Gaming 7
AMD Ryzen 7 2700X
32GB DDR4 3200MHZ
Shapphire Radeon RX VEGA 64 Nitro+
2 x 1TB SSD

Now I know I could get a cheaper motherboard and get the i7 but I don't want to pay £400 for that cpu, I would rather just have a better motherboard. Ram is a bit of an overkill but I will keep this PC for at least 4 years so might as get the extra. That Radeon isn't exactly 4K@60 but I'm getting a freesync monitor and it comes with 3 games I could sell or keep and is cheaper than 1080Ti. I think this will be a good rig and the only thing will need replacing is the card but I this one should do for a year or two if I play with the settings a bit :)

Before you dip into vega 64 nitro read the reviews from americans and uk users to see which is best.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B071CPWFVJ/ref=dp_olp_used?ie=UTF8&condition=used

This is the best you could hope for at 530 pounds, just make sure you get the warranty and transfer of ownership.

Goodluck on your AMD Raisin I mean RYZEN 2700x Build.

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/sapp...hbm2-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-38j-sp.html

This is brand new and hopefully on Black Friday it drop few extra quid :)

Not bad at all and its a sapphire, they really do make good graphics card.
Some other people would beg to differ but whatever. :/
The only thing thats not agreeing with me is the gpu core clock speed.

Check the link below, but anything emulation wise, like dolphin or pcsx2 or citra...
https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-1080-Ti-vs-AMD-RX-Vega-64/3918vs3933
ATI with enough video memory and good core clocks will emulate it almost too perfectly.
Mind you have a good quadcore or hexa-core cpu at 3.6ghz -4.2ghz with good L2 and L3 cache at 6-8mb to pick up the workload.
