Half-Life 2 Crash error

I recently installed a copy of half-life 2 on my friends desktop but every time that he tries to launch it, midway through the launch it says hl2.exe is not responding any suggestions?

Ugh that's a buggy one. Fully updated via Steam? The newer versions seem okay.

Try running in compatibility mode like I told you in the other thread a while back (if he is running Windows 7 or higher).

Um I did not get it from Steam and I forgot that I made a thread a while back, but it still is doing that after I uninstalled it a long time ago.

I don't see how that is possible, my teacher gave me the install disk and he installed it on the entire lab and we all play on lan servers with tf2 mod as well with no steam installed?

Haha, what an awesome teacher. I don't know how it's possible, maybe a cracked software? In any case, Half Life 2 definitely needs Steam DRM.
