I dont know where to post this lol.

Anyway, i was wondering how many times should i overwrite my hard disk in order to stop digital recovery(personal pics/vid), even with the use of electron microscopes or any forensic tools.

Thank u!

Get one of those programs, that overwrites the harddrive with random data.
Overwriting it with meaningful data doesn't do much help.

I haven't tried it, but DBAN should work fine.

No, I don't know what is a reasonable number of passes. I guess it depends on how paranoid you are.

FYI, only physcal destruction or a degaussing machine is rated for destroying "top secret" data. So if you want to be 100% sure, these are your only options.

Two versions of Wipe It will destroy data off the HDD

One is the 35 method most corp USA companies use.
Then their is the ones use by USG max number that takes a couple of hours to complete. Found that on FD but can me migrated to CD/DVD bootable.

In my opinion both are very effective..

thank you very much. Im currently using DBAN, now overwriting my hdd 33 times with PRNG mersenne twister. lol.

Is that secure enough?
