I have a Seagate Barracuda SATA 160gb hd in a Dell Vostro that had been working fine. When it boots up I am getting a BSOD; Unmountable Boot Volume.
I have used the XP cd and tried FIXBOOT and CHKDSK /R. Neither worked. Chkdsk got about 25% of the way complete and gave me a message that the drive was unrecoverable ( or something like that).
I have since installed a new drive with XP and tried to connect the broken one as a slave. When I used windows explorer to try to read it, I get the message "drive not formatted".
What next?
Thanks.
