HBO Max will be the new home of Comedy Central’s South Park starting in June 2020. The WarnerMedia-based streaming provider emerged as the winner following a fierce bidding war that Netflix pulled out of earlier this month, a source familiar with the matter told Variety.

Hulu, which is owned by Disney, is the current streaming home of South Park.

Netflix reportedly pulled out of contention in part because it wanted global, not just domestic, streaming rights.

In announcing the deal, HBO Max Chief Content Officer Kevin Reilly said South Park is unequivocally among the best – setting the satirical gold standard with a consistent finger on the comedy pulse. “Audiences have connected with Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny – either alive or dead – for over 20 years, and we look forward to connecting these characters to new audiences on HBO Max,” Reilly added.

South Park debuted in mid-1997 with a unique and risqué sense of humor that arguably hadn’t been seen in an animated series since Beavis and Butt-Head. The show has had its ups and downs over the years but has maintained its position as one of Comedy Central’s highest rated programs throughout.

HBO Max is expected to launch in May 2020 as yet another streaming platform for your consideration.

These stupid streaming wars are nothing but a huge disservice to consumers.
IMO, all these new services are scrambling for content like wolves at a kill scrambling for table scraps. With a proposed launch date of June 2020, I wonder if there is some sort of safety clause in the contract that lets HBO back out without penalty if they decide not to launch.

I am happy with what I have - Netflilx, commercial Hulu, and OTA. For the rest, I'll visit my local library when whatever I want to watch comes out on disk.

I hate the streaming wars. Bunch of greedy bastards that never believed in streaming media until Netflix and the original Hulu proved there was a demand.

Only streaming service I pay for is Curiosity Stream, $20 a year is too good to pass up for the content, everything else is free Pluto TV, Crackle, Tubi and Youtube.

South park will never be what it once was, but this season is pretty good. They def aged better then Family Guy or The Simpsons. What 10 years ago people were crying, I wish I could just buy HBO! Why do I have to pay for a whole cable package!

This season and last have had me belly-laughing all the time. The 'school shooter' episode last year and now this year's episodes on China and the Impossible Burger have been instant classics. I bloody love South Park.

South park isn't funny anymore imo, I'd rather watch the simpsons or family guy, SP may one of the preachiest shows on tv right now.
