Help with Error parsing on my HP laptop

Booting up this morning I saw this on the desktop
Error parsing
C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\config\machine.config
Parser returned error 0x80004005.
Any help appreciated

It appears that running Disk Cleanup has solved the problem. I ran TFC also, rebooted a couple times & no more pop up.

Dang it, it came back. Any suggestions

One of the MANY solutions was to empty the Windows Update folder, how is that done? Would it be easier to reset it to factory? Its about 4 years old. Its an HP laptop

Well, last night I found the Windows Update Folder, found 3 in there, uninstalled them, had to reboot, once rebooted, left it running a bit no pop up so I shut it down. This morning I booted it up, pop up returned so I ran Windows Update, 3 were downloaded & installed & rebooted. It has been looking good for about 20 minutes, hoping its fixed, but if not, will be back.

About 4 hours after the previous post, all was looking good. Popup usually shows as soon as I get to desktop. I shut it down for the night, next day I started it up & yes, pop up was back. Lost my patience & reset it to factory settings yesterday. Let it run (idling) for hours, was working fine. Rebooted a couple times, still ok. So far today has been fine, but am curious if anybody can tell me what the problem was?? TIA
