Hitman Sniper will be free until April 4

Square Enix’s mobile game Hitman Sniper has hit a major milestone by exceeding 10 million players. To celebrate the game will be free for a limited time. From now until April 4 you can download the normally $0.99 game free of charge. This promotion applies to both the iOS and Android versions.

The game is a few years old now having launched October 3, 2014. It is not a terribly original concept — it is pretty much your standard mobile sniper game. However, the production quality is top-notch.

Hitman Sniper runs on the Unity engine. The graphics are crisp and clean. The voice acting is above par for a mobile game, and the control interface is intuitive and easy to use.

The missions are straightforward and short, so the game is great in bursts while you are waiting around. Objectives naturally involve sniping enemies, but the game allows you the freedom to creatively takedown targets indirectly. Using the environment to eliminate enemies scores you bonus cash which you use to buy ability perks, weapon upgrades, and add-ons.

Even though the game has been out for a while, Square Enix is continually updating it with optimizations, seasonal content, and other in-game goodies. This commitment says a lot since many mobile developers throw a game onto the store and then forget about it until it has to be updated due to OS changes.

I’ve played my share of mobile sniper games and have yet to find one that can match the production standards in Hitman, although Sniper Fury from Gameloft is pretty close. If you have even a passing interest in this type of game, it’s well worth the download

I just checked, and I already own it. Which means that it was likely free before at some point. I do buy games on Android (and for more than $1), but I don't think I'd have bought this particular one. (Checked google, it confirms that it was free some months ago.)

As a former sniper (before Barrits but after flintlocks) I can say that the game has a number of flaws BUT it's still one heck of a lot of fun and now that I'm bald I'm looking into a bar code tat for the back of my head. Is there an app out there that shows what the appropriate bar code would be for "old fat fart" ????

Yeah, I'm sure it went up for free more than once. It probably promo'd for free right before the price dropped from $4.99 to 99 cents too.

And @Uncle Al -- Are you sure you weren't in my flintlock brigade back in the day? Seem to recall someone just like you.

@ Cal Jeffrey - OK, OK, OK ...... you got me, I'll confess. Actually it was rocks and sticks, we couldn't afford a flintlock but I got a pretty good arm out of the deal! Love the barcode, I'll have to ask the neighbor next door (he just got out of the joint) what he'll charge me to give me some prison ink!
