Hi,

I'm using Dell Inspiron 1420 on Windows Vista Home Premium.

I'd be glad for any tips as how to disable the built-in touchpad.

Thanks,
Ohad.

I;m going to take a stab at this because the touchpad isn't a 'Vista' feature, but one for a laptop. Go to the Control Panel> Mouse> Touchpad> disable there.

It is also loading at startup. My Dell use Apoint:

Here is how to use MSCONFIG in Windows Vista to disable processes on startup:
http://www.netsquirrel.com/msconfig/msconfig_vista.html

This site show a click on Normal Startup. Instead, please click on Selective Startup then the Startup tab.

Look for Apoint and UNCHECK it. Then click on Apply> OK
NOTE: when you reboot the first time, you'll get a nag message that can be ignore and closed after checking 'don't show this message again.' Stay in Selective Startup.
