How is this happening?

Hi My daughters Samsung phone has I think been hacked somebody has deleted her photos and all contact phone numbers they have bragged to her over messenger that they have done this what I would like to know is it possible they may have collected all the contacts numbers when they deleted them on my daughters phone.I have reported this to the police.
