Earlier this week, Dell reduced the price of its Adamo 13 ultra-thin notebook by a hundred bucks (along with a CPU and RAM upgrade), and it seems HP has followed suit with its Envy 13 today. The sleek MacBook look-a-like is now available for $999.99, which is down some 30% from $1,449.99.

Like the Adamo 13, HP's Envy 13 features an aluminum body and has similarly dated specs: a 1.6GHz Intel Core 2 Duo SL9300, 3GB of RAM, a 250GB 5400RPM HDD, an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330. That's a tough sell at $1k in our opinion, especially alongside the Adamo and even HP's other systems.

The Adamo 13 has a slightly larger display, a 2.1GHz Core 2 Duo SL9600, a 128GB SSD, and optional WWAN connectivity. Meanwhile, the bulkier Envy 14 starts at $999.99 with a 2.40GHz Core i3-370M, a 1GB Mobility Radeon HD 5650, 4GB of RAM, a 500GB 7200RPM HDD, and an eight-cell battery.

HP's Pavilion dm3t series, which starts at $549.99, also seems to offer a better value than the current Envy 13. For $629.99, you can configure the dm3t with a 1.33GHz Core i3-380UM, 4GB of RAM, a 320GB 7200RPM HDD, and a six-cell battery. It has a similar weight, thickness, and metal chassis.

It's not every day that system builders like Dell and HP offer such steep discounts, so it seems likely that they're just trying to clear stock ahead of a refresh. Nonetheless, if you were shopping for an Envy 13 anyway, enjoy the $450 savings. Oh, and note that refurbished Envy 13s have been reduced too.

Hmmm... Maybe, since the Envy is indeed a MacBook look-a-like, they put the $999 price-tag to attract similar customers?

I mean, like the article said, the very HP has other systems with better specs and lower prices; the only reason I see for them to this with this specific model, would be to attract customers who envy (pun intended) MacBook users.
