Hello!
Today I have been looking into new parts to upgrade my computer, since it's far overdue. While looking, it seemed to me that most of my existing parts could stay, and I only really needed to upgrade the CPU and GPU.
My computer currently uses an AMD motherboard courtesy of ASRock, so I focused on finding an AMD processor first. My eye fell on: AMD FX-8350 Black Edition.
For the sake of fair competition, I looked into Intel as well, and found: Intel Core i5 3570k.
Now, since my motherboard is AMD, I'd have to switch my board for that. I found: ASRock Z77 Pro3 to be a good price/quality part for the job.
The GPU I eventually found was MSI GeForce GTX 960. Apparently combining NVidia chips with AMD processors doesn't cause issues.
Total cost with AMD processor: 400 Euro (450$) (using current ASRock 870 Extreme3 r2.0 motherboard).
Total cost with Intel processor: 540 Euro (610$) (with the new motherboard listed above).
540 is just a little too much for me, so if I could avoid it, I would want to. My question is: would the difference in performance between the AMD and Intel chips really be worth the additional 140 Euro?
I'm primarily a gamer, playing mostly League of Legends, Eve Online and a bunch of other games that I play less regularly. I like running multiple clients at once, and/or multiple games at once.
Apart from these parts, I have 8GB DDR3 RAM (recently upgraded), 64GB SSD and 1TB harddrive (7200rpm), and a 900W PSU (don't judge, it was on sale).
Also, any related advice regarding compatibility or suggestions for different parts are more than welcome!
Thanks in advance,
Marty
