I have an old machine here (Dell Inspiron 4550) that has one IDE port and no Sata ports, and a newer machine (Dell Inspiron 9200) that has sata ports but no IDE ports.
I have used a seperate machine to clone the old IDE drive onto a new SATA drive, but when I try to boot the new machine it says there is no boot device available.
I have checked the BIOS thoroughly and do not find any way to change the boot configuration from AHCI to IDE.
I suspect my problem is that the disk does not have any SATA drivers preinstalled but I am not sure exactly how to install them so that they are present at bootup. I also do not know exactly what drivers would be needed.
Can anyone shed some light on this?
