IE7, Vista 32 locks up after IE8 uninstall

I am running Vista ULT 32 and recently installed the Beta for IE8. Did not wish to continue, so uninstalled the IE8. Since then I contnually have problems with IE7 locking up with a dialog box for "close" or "restart". It appears that IE7 cannot be uninstalled from Vista which negates the possibility of a reinstall. More and more I am relying on Firefox, especially since there is now have a Google Toolbar available. Anyone have any suggestions short of complete reinstall of OS? I have already tried the "repair" option for the OS.
