Heh, the optimist.+1 for Hawking's quote. I would reckon, though, that when we meet other intelligent life, humanity will be shown to be pretty average in galactic terms.

Not a tech prediction but my favourite quote of Bill's is the one about who stole the GUI from whom: "Well, Steve, I think there's more than one way of looking at it. I think it's more like we both had this rich neighbor named Xerox and I broke into his house to steal the TV set and found out that you had already stolen it."
It does seem to be an authentic quote, even if the wording isn't 100%.That was from Pirates of Silicon Valley no? Not from Bill Gates directly.
