Increasing FPS in CoD4

Hello,
Recently when I play Call Of Duty 4, my FPS go down. This didn't happen before. Before I had about 60FPS average, now when I start firing, my FPS can drop down to 10!

I have 4GB of RAM, 2.00GHz CPU, and an XFX 8600GT XXX (overclocked edition) graphics card.

Is there anything that could be slowing down my PC??
As I mentioned before, this is not related to my graphics card because this did not happen before.


Are there any tweets that will increase my FPS in-game?

It could be overheating now even if it wasn't before. Have you checked for dust clogging the CPU heatsink or graphics card? Is the graphics card fan working properly (not too slow - hard to tell sometimes, I know)?

Ok i'm sorry for the late reply, but I was in Pars for a holiday and didn't have access to a PC.
I will check if the fan for clogging and fan slowdown. Thanks for the advice.
