Intel announces 8th generation Coffee Lake desktop chips, which includes its best gaming...

$260 for the i5-8600k....I paid $160 for my 7600k. The i3-8100 looks interesting as a budget CPU for gaming

"How does clockspeed work? I'm not sure, but I need to shill for a megacorporation."

No need to get so defensive and upset. I stated a fact. AMD can solder all the chips they want but if they can't spin their latest and greatest to hit anything like the clock speeds at viable voltage Intel can then whining about TIM is frivolous at best.

Why do you keep mentioning AMD? And why do you think clockspeeds across different architectures matter?

Coffee Lake? What a ridiculous name. Intel's marketing goons should sit around the boardroom table drinking caffeine free before deciding on names.
Actually Coffee Lake is a real lake in Lake County, Oregon (I looked it up). All their architecture code names seem to be named after real geographical locations, mostly in Oregon (5 different counties in Oregon have a place called "Devil's Canyon". But, where is Kaby Lake? Google can't find it...

OK then. Thanks. I thought they just dreamt up those names.

FWIW, there is a Kaby Lake, Ontario Canada. It's actually short for Kabinakagami Lake but it's commonly known as Kaby.

Well when different architectures have similar IPC then clock speeds matter. This is a tech site right? I thought this was self explanatory.

If you're going to condescend, you shouldn't start your discussions with a strawman about AMD.

It wasn't a strawman. It was a statement of fact. If you can produce processors with TIM that still outstrip your competitor's that supposedly use a superior method then complaints are somewhat frivolous. I await your response.

I also answered your question about clock speed although it was obviously not a very good question hence the reply.

Commentary over TIM and the thermal problems that lie therein are independent of any competitors.

"This is fine" is not acceptable.

What thermal problems?

Is there a major problem with these processors that cause them to not function to their specifications or far beyond them, in the vast majority of cases?
