What just happened? We’re used to hearing about the US imposing trade restrictions on Huawei, but that’s not the only tech giant being affected by America’s ongoing battle with China. Intel has suspended shipments to Inspur, the world's third-largest server manufacturer and China's largest, to ensure compliance with US government export regulations.

Update (7/3): According to Chinese media Intel has already resumed shipments to Inspur. They were quoted earlier this week saying they've had to adjust their supply chain to ensure compliance with US laws and that may take "no more than two weeks" to resume supplies, however it seems the hold has been much shorter than that.

Last week, the Pentagon announced 20 companies it said were owned by, controlled by, or affiliated with China’s military. Huawei was one of those named, of course, as was Inspur. The list was mandated under the Defense Authorization Act of 1999, but this is the first administration to put out the report.

Following the publication of the Pentagon list, Intel told Tom’s Hardware: "We have temporarily paused shipments to one customer in order to ensure compliance with U.S. Government export regulations. This is a temporary pause expected to last less than two weeks for some items, and others will resume in a matter of days. We will resume shipments as soon as we can do so while ensuring compliance with U.S. law."

While Intel never mentioned Inspur by name, it was responding to a question about the firm, which is focused on cloud computing, big data, key application hosts, servers, storage, artificial intelligence, and ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning).

As China’s largest AI and traditional server supplier, and the third-largest in the world, Inspur is a big customer for Intel. The news saw the Chinese company’s shares fall almost 5 percent yesterday.

While US trade restrictions mean Huawei’s new smartphones lack Google’s suite of apps, it doesn’t have to worry about its server business being affected. The firm, which sits behind Inspur as China’s second-largest server supplier, uses its own Arm-based chips in its servers.

When you look at the long term projections I'm thinking so many of these companies like Intel, Apple, etc. should be making plans and actually moving to less hostile 3rd world countries that have a labor force capable to doing the work. Some like Vietnam, Laos, etc. would be strong contenders. Regardless of their financial pull, when countries start feuding the companies and ultimately the consumer looses and considering China's earlier habits of Nationalizing companies they wanted to take over I would think the current captains of industry should be paying a lot closer attention .....

This anti-China sentiment is specifically about Trump's presidency. Once Trump is gone, America is going to go back to normal with China.

The bottom line is that using Chinese low-wage-labor, America has been allowed to live a quality of life that our own production in no way justifies.

We get cheap furniture, cheap electronics, cheap tools, cheap car parts...

And all we send them is worthless "US Dollars" which they in turn bring back to America and use to purchase our property/real estate.

America has been exporting inflation while simultaneously keeping people hypnotized with cheap toys: RC helicopters, smartphones, Alexa speakers, sneakers, etc.

Apple wants to pull production from China and take it to India. Well if every other US corporation does that, it changes nothing. America only has 350 million people. China has the entirety of Southeast Asia.

We'll still be trying to live high on the hog, going deeper in debt and India will increase its quality of life while USA declines.

I nominate KITBOGA for President.

China was well known for its vast buildings. It has the great wall of china that is visible from outter space and is an impressive building, on top of mountains even. Feats that no other nation did before.

I think is in their civic spirit to be hard working and disciplined; they invented so many arts from fighting, accupuncture, to even meditation arts.

I get sick of people telling china isn't great, when china got all the tools, the infrastructure, the people, and the right attitude.
They have the market to sell their own goods to themselves, and also to the world, is how trading works.

What is impressive about china culture, is that is based around the people. For example p0rn is banned in china, which is a big thing. You even wondered why girls tend to do better in school, without being total nerds, but rather strong in every aspect, from social, to eq, etc? Is because they don't waste their sexual energy, like boys do on porn since young age.
Think about it, China has that caring, is protective of their pupils. The west does not do sh8t to protect their youth.

China is pretty great, and you gotta be hell of an ignorat kid not to know history, or have no knowledge, wisdom about things.

Give credit where credit is due.

Now list the great things from China post cultural revolution?
Easy access to porn is a relatively recent phenomenon (certainly didn't have it when I was growing up) and is technically illegal to provide to under 18s so I'm unsure how great this untapped (sexual) energy source really is. Of course sexual repression has had such a successful history in the past - guess the Victorians in the UK got that right.......

The Chinese got it right with it.
The effect of p0rn on youngsters is lack of motivation, energy, confidence, empathy, and basically lacking the reward circuit for enjoying small things. Many artists naturally channeled this energy toward something else (look up Napoleon Hills). One thing happens when you derive your pleasue from outside, and not having joy from within. The Asian culture got that right. Look for the tibetan rites, the 6 rite is esentially exactly about this. I don't fancy the chinese, but I do agree with imposing some rules on the populism. Alan Watts kind of speaks about the duality and some kings were seen as one of the archetype, a kind of lead in human evolution, ambasadors at the peak of the society and civilisation. I vote for banning it. Is no point for the west's pupils to go careless into effects of consumerism / and of objectification from such an young age.

I've personally been pissed at Chinese business practices long before Trump. Remember the capacitor plague from the mid 2000s? That was the result of a Chinese employee stealing an incomplete design doc from a Japanese company.

Then there's how they killed Nortel and laundry list of other shady things I'm to lazy to type out.

US will be fine. Have to remember we invented the modern life for better or worse. If we sucked that bad why does China send their kids to study in Western countries?

I see the US losing it dominance on the world stage; which might be a good thing and possibly a more competitive EU; also a good thing. My prediction is China will be slowly shut off from the global market until they prove they won't keep stabbing people in the back.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Chinese_inventions

Look at the pathetic list of first time inventions after 1912 in China. Democratic nations are proving to be the most inventive. It's a bit easier to think outside the box when you don't need to worry about having your organs harvested.
