Internet Connection Problems

Ok, I've been having this problem recently with my internet, I don't know what's wrong, but here is my problem.

When I try connecting to programs my computer freezes up.

This happens when: Someone loggs on xfire, my computer just freezes; when I get on ventrilo, my computer freezes; when I try to connect to steam, my computer also freezes. I hope someone has a solution for me.

Also, I'm using Windows 7.

hmm; first we need some system information {XP/?, Vista/? or Win/7}
what SP level?

you should

1. FIRST verify that the HD is sane ; using Admin, run -> chkdsk /f
2. verify the configuration
   get the install CD loaded and then run->sfc /scannow

then begin the 8-step process show here
