tipstir replied to you with one here for your Hard Drive
You can also scan your Ram with >> Memtest
Many computer manufactures also have available, free hardware diagnostic disks to download
I don't personally like stress testing the CPU, but there are programs that can do that as well
Mind you checking for excessive heat is a good idea (most Bios settings have this option)

Generally most users don't do the preventative measure of testing "good" hardware
They just wait for it to fault, then either test it, or replace it
Is there any particular/specific hardware you want to check?
Vista (just like all Windows versions) really only confirms your software is ok, if you get hardware faults usually you also get non helpful BSODs
