==== End Of File ===========================

Sorry for the confusion. Perhaps I forgot to close the previous thread. But this new problem and comes a month after we finished the previous cleaning and should be handled here on the separate thread. So I am reopening this thread and closing the earlier one.

Give me a chance to check the logs.

For the Java entries:
Click on the Control Panel> Java> Temporary Internet Files> Settings> Click on Delete> Close.

I'd like you to run Combofix. Be sure you are signed on to whichever account you used for GMER. You have setting the same as someone else I'm helping> duplicate entries for 32 and 64 bit. He ram GMER without incident, but got message in Combifix that it wasn't compatible with the OS. We're trying to work out q Command prompt for the 32bit.

Please download ComboFix from Here and save to your Desktop.

  • [1]. Do NOT rename Combofix unless instructed.
[2].Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
    [3].Close any open browsers.
[4]. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts to run.
  • NOTE: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If it does not, restart your computer to restore your connection.
[5]. If Combofix asks you to install Recovery Console, please allow it.
[6]. If Combofix asks you to update the program, always allow.
  • Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
[7]. A report will be generated after the scan. Please paste the C:\ComboFix.txt in next reply.
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall.
Note: Make sure you re-enable your security programs, when you're done with Combofix..

  9. Re-enable your Antivirus software.
  10. A logfile is created and located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt. Please include this on your post.

NOTE: Please go into Tools> Manage add-ons and disable this:
DPF: {5D86DDB5-BDF9-441B-9E9E-D4730F4EE499} - hxxp://download.bitdefender.com/resources/scanner/sources/en/scan8/oscan8.cab
There are two settings for the dialog boxx: 1, Addons currently used and 2. Addons previously used. Check both, disable both if running.

I note you also have this:
mRun-x64: [COMODO Internet Security] "C:\Program Files\COMODO\COMODO Internet Security\cfp.exe" -h
This rings a faint bell for me. If we discussed it previously, please refresh my mind.

Hi Bobbye,
Thanks, I will do these steps as soon as I'm home from work.

I wanted to reply to this though now:
You said:

You told me last time to download Comodo Firewall. Should I not have it on my computer or is there something wrong? Please advise..

No that's fine. I just didn't want to go back and read the entire other thread. For Firewall, it's fine. Thank you for helping my brain overload along!

No problem, I cannot expect you to remember everything :) Please let me know if you need any other information. So that file is fine then?

As soon as I get home from work I'll be doing those steps as instructed and will post the results. Thanks so much!

Ok I deleted the Java files as instructed but had a question. When my Avira virus scan finished, it said they moved the files to the quarentine. Did that mean that the virus was fixed/blocked or does quarentine mean it is jsut sitting there waiting for action? I am kind of ashamed of myself b/c I remembered you told me last time to always make sure Java is properly updated. I thought I had all the latest updates but I guess I missed something somewhere or didn't uninstall a previous one correctly. I hope this one is fixable

Also- I've downloaded Combofix and double click it. A box comes up saying what it is compatible with in like 10 different languages then nothing happens. Says it is not compatible with my OS... SKip this step?

BTW-

GMER Did work... I skipped this step during the 8-step process due to me having a 64-bit Windows. Here is the log (Going to re-try combofix again):

GMER 1.0.15.15477 - http://www.gmer.net

Running ESET now.

IN regards to this:

"NOTE: Please go into Tools> Manage add-ons and disable this:

I didn't see that exact code but I did see something under "Toolbars and Extensions" which was under "Not Available" program called "Uninstall Bit Defender". I hit disable. Is this the correct one? If so, there is any way to delete that entirely? I don't remember even having bit defender..
Also when I clicked the dropdown bar and selected "All Add-Ons"
I found Bit Defender and disabled that as well. Why is that listed on my add-ons? Crazy.

Also, Bobbye, if you want me to reply differently please let me know. For me, different replies is easier to organize when responding to so let me know if i should condense or not. I figured one step at a time works better but please let me know what works for you best. Thanks so much

About the replies- I would appreciate it if you need to add something and there is not a post below, please use the Edit feature and add to that Reply. Every time there is a reply to these threads, I get feedback email.

I don't know what's going on with the 64bit IS, GMER and Combofix. I have 2 other members with that same problem. I need to ask Broni if he's seeing this too because it's a problem telling members what to run.

You can still get a Java exploit if it's current- it's a fairly easy one to remove. I set mine not to keep any temporary internet files, so that's an option.

Bobbeye,

I'll be sure to edit from now on. Thanks for letting me know. Sorry about not condensing earlier.
Ran ESET. Can't find the log.. this is the only txt document I can find in that folder. Do you have any idea where else it could be?

ESETSmartInstaller@High as CAB hook log:
OnlineScanner64.ocx - registred OK
OnlineScanner.ocx - registred OK
esets_scanner_update returned -1 esets_gle=53251

Okay, we need the online scan. Run this instead:
Run Kaspersky Online Scanner in Internet Explorer

Note: If you are using Windows Vista, open your browser by right-clicking on its icon and select 'Run as administrator' to perform this scan.
  • Click Accept and the web scanner will begin to load
  • If a yellow warning bar appears at the top of the browser, click it and choose Install ActiveX Control
  • You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, click Install
  • If you are prompted about another ActiveX control called Kaspersky Online Scanner GUI part then allow it to be installed also.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT and then Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
[o] Scan using the following Anti-Virus database> Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
[o] Scan Options: Scan Archives> Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:
    [o] Select My Computer
  • The program will start to scan your system.
  • Once the scan is complete, click on the Save as Text button and save the file to your desktop
Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble with the accept button of the license, click on the Zoom tool located at the right bottom of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license is accepted, reset to 100%.

Bobbye,
I'm having trouble finding the "Save as Text" button. Nothing shows. When I click show report I get this:
KASPERSKY ONLINE SCANNER 7.0: scan report
Sunday, October 24, 2010
Operating system: Microsoft (build 7600)
Kaspersky Online Scanner version: 7.0.26.13
Last database update: Sunday, October 24, 2010 12:23:42
Records in database: 4176408

Scan settings
scan using the following database extended
Scan archives yes
Scan e-mail databases yes

Scan area My Computer
C:\
E:\
F:\
G:\

Scan statistics
Objects scanned 105688
Threats found 0
Infected objects found 0
Suspicious objects found 0
Scan duration 01:44:27

Is this the correct file or am I missing something again? I didn't see any button- only "configure", "View Report"

Do you think since 2 logs haven't been seen that you might be missing a direction? Let's go back to the Eset scan- I think running it is much less confusing then Kaspersky. Please run the Eset scan again.

Be sure you follow #1-4 before starting the scan.
Then click on Start and allow the Active X object to install.
At this point, you will need to disable your AV program
You will not check the option for removal
But you will check to scan unwanted apps.

Once set up, you will actually begin the scan> so first you had 'start' to set the program up and then you had 'scan' to actually run the scan itself.

Turn your AV program back on.
Look either of these 2 places for the log: the desktop or in Programs using Windows Explorer:
Windows Key + E> My computer> Double click on Local Drive (C)> Programs> Click on Eset to open the program> look on the right for log.txt.
===========================================
Run Eset NOD32 Online AntiVirus scan HEREhttp://www.eset.eu/online-scanner
  1. Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
  2. Click Start
  3. When asked, allow the Active X control to install
  4. Disable your current Antivirus software. You can usually do this with its Notification Tray icon near the clock.
  5. Click Start
  6. Make sure that the option "Remove found threats" is Unchecked, and the option "Scan unwanted applications" is checked
  7. Click Scan
  8. Wait for the scan to finish
  9. Re-enable your Antivirus software.
  10. A logfile is created and located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt. Please include this on your post.

Edit: You lost this log first time around also. Do the same magic again to find it now:
Found it!!!
I searched everything ... or so I thought. I did a search in the entire C drive for "ESET" and it finally found the log.
https://www.techspot.com/vb/topic153042-2.html

You could probably just put Eset in Search> All Files and Folders> Eset> look for the log.exe

Yep- I turned off all the scans (Avira, Comodo and Windows Defender). I did this all the first time too- I also searched ESET in the entire C Drive likelast time- No luck. I have no idea whats wrong. Ive tried it numerous times. Any idea where else it could be? I turned everything off, its so weird..

Please bring me current on what, if any problems you are still having. Combofix isn't going to run on your system, but either or both of the online AV scans should run.

IE8 has the default download location set to the desktop. When something is saved for the first time, it will go to the default location. If you don't want it to got here, you click on Browse and choose the location from the drop-down menu.. So I don't know where these logs are going.

Well one thing I noticed was desktop.ini files were on my desktop, what are these files? Are they from ComboFix? Also, the Java virus is still in my quarantine in Avira, so I'm not sure if it is safe or what.

I turned off all 3 virus scans that ESET picks up as running. Avira, Windows Defender, Comodo. When I turned them off, ESET still detected that I had them. Not sure if this matters or not. ESET and Kaspersky ran fine, I just don't know where the log is.

I searched everything in every drive. I tried searching ESET, didn't find anything. I tried searching log.txt.. the only logs which showed were the ones that I pasted above, after every time I ran the scan. I have no idea what is wrong and I was getting a bit frustrated trying to figure out where in the world the damn log went. Is there anything else I can try?

If the Java virus is in Quarantine is it safe to use the computer?

Also- I have not done any updates to Java at this point either. I figured I'd wait for instructions before doing anything. I did some research on the virus it found and it said that the virus got through due to a hole in Java which occurs if you aren't updated to the most recent Java. So I guess I need to totally update Java as well. Didn't want to do this yet though.
