Laptop screen goes black (comp still on) when viewing online videos

Ok so here's my issue.

Dell inspiron e1505
Windows XP Sp3
Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2 GHz
4 GB RAM
ATi Mobility Radeon X1400 (with updated Omega drivers)

The issue: My laptop screen goes black, but the computer appears to be on (the WIFI and blutooth lights next to the power button do not turn off) when I watch videos online. This does not happen every time I watch online videos nor does it happen when I have a certain number of tabs open, at specific websites, etc. It does not happen regularly and once I restart my computer (holding down the power button to turn it off) the issue is resolved. I've never had it happen twice in a day. Please help.


Also of note I have just replaced my laptop's hard drive. I thought that was the solution to this problem but it was not. It turns out my old hard drive was timing out and on the fritz anyway. This leads me to believe that this is a malware issue possibly or another hardware issue.
