Latest Windows 10 update causes system slowdowns, crashes, more

Or, its people like me who have been seeing "M$" since the mid-'90s and find it boorish, unfunny, pretentious and overall just lazy. I can assure you nobody is impressed. And enduring 14 years of Microsoft doesn't impress me. I have been using DOS\Windows since the 80s through the bad and the good
So much ad hominem vitriol, $PC.

I've been listening to "Sintel sucks, long live AMD" since the mid 90's, but I don't publish some holier than thou outrage when I see it.

Try to get your head around, this, in your context of "nobody", you're trying to either claim, imply, or imagining, you're, "everybody".

BTW, my reading comprehension scores are off the high end of the charts.

BTW Bill Gate$ was at one time, the richest man in the world

I can only assume that it is a chart you made yourself.
No actually, it was the state of Pennsylvania. Never "assume" anything. You do know what "assume" phonetically spells out, right? The forum software won't let me print it out for you.

EDIT, I couldn't help notice you're quoting me in red ink. If you modify another member's posts when you quote them, how can anybody take you seriously?

Hey, what's sauce for the goose, is sauce for the gander.

Have I got you "seeing red"?

Hey, all I did was use the meme "M$", and I've been listening to a bunch of ad hominem attacks ever since.

For all I care, you can yank the whole sequence, starting at Mr' PC's #19.

If you think I over stepped at #18, yank that too.. Consider the entire exchange reported.

I am still using my win7 with NO updates. works great, no problems. second computer has Ubuntu, it is ok, only problem being it does not work well with old windows programs that I bought.

BUT, android seems not to have the problems that Micro$lop has. Wonder why?

Don't mind me folks just got Windows 7 using 0% CPU usage, 833MB-1.1GB of Ram usage and after installing FARCRY5 on my Phenom 965BE @ 3.4GHZ and 8GB of DDR2 RIPJAWS I'm getting 48-59fps on ULTRA settings @1080p with an overclocked RX560 4GB.

I also own a Windows 10 laptop that runs like a pig. oink oink!

Don't you ever wonder why? Have you done anything as far as troubleshooting?
I still have my nephew's old (2014) laptop with an i3 4120U and 4 gigs of ram that is still quite smooth.

Have you tried a clean install of W 10? If it's running that bad it might help.

Which is more destructive, Windows 10 Updates or Novel Coronavirus?

It's absolutely unbelievable that Microsoft cannot get Win 10 updates right. Their QC is worse than abysmal. MS must start thoroughly testing its software before deployment and stop using its market base as beta testers.

I sense a class action lawsuit in the making...

IMO, given the leads to the M$ store in Win 10, they're sort of looking the other way with regard to compatibility with other publisher's software.

In other words, they're . Usually, "services" are paid for by the month.closing the system, ala Apple.

On top of that, they're stated that "Windows is a service". So again, IMO, they'd like to do that with Windows, but they can't pull the trigger on "Windows by the month", until they get a lot more of Windows 7 machines out of the equation.

I also think, if M$ isn't going to support an older OS, such as Windows 7, then they should activate it permanently on those machines which are duly licensed. After all, if they're no longer going to do anything for you, why should you still be tethered to them?

There's still a lot of unnecessary telemetry being done on those older systems. In point of fact, I stuffed a video card in a Win 7 machine , while disconnected from the internet, Lo and behold, when I put it back on line, they tried to tell me "I was running a counterfeit copy". and I had to reactivate the system.

Should you put up a blue screen on as ancient an OS as XP, it will still blow up a message asking you "would you like to turn in a report", like they're actually going to do something about it. Spare me.

Time to upgrade to a Mac. I did, never looked back. Not perfect, but as I hear all these windows problems, sure glad I did

Yep. Crap of ultimate proportions. From my viewpoint, they went from 0 problems with 8.1 updates to almost constant, sometimes making PCs useless, problems with every update and then the solution is - reinstall windows. WTF - I have days to spend reinstalling 10 and then all the apps, too? For one computer of mine, that was the only option that I was given by M$ "Tech Support."

Screw them. I don't have time to reinstall. With any luck, though it seems a complete crap-shoot, they will get some future update bug-free enough so that I won't have to reinstall.

Honestly, I could give a crap about updates since my network is secured by a linux gateway and I have taken steps to reduce and/or eliminate any potential threats including "good usage habits."

All those told to reinstall should send M$ a bill for our time.

And building on that, where at the manufacturer do you send the bill if your car breaks down. And by God someone must have a bill they need to have someone else pay if the house needs repair.

I am curious though. I know it would take multiple seconds to go into settings to delay update installs (Delay for up to 31 days). But I am confidant that almost anyone can wipe off their tears, get up off the floor and perform that magical task.

In 10 home, which is run by many people, there is little that can be done. However, given that M$ is not at all consistent with their update release frequency, there is no guarantee that they will fix a breaking change during that "delay period" even if your version of 10 honors any sort of delay.

And if you are running home, the only sure way to delay updates is to pay yet another $99 for a Home to Pro upgrade, and then you have to have some knowledge of how to use the Group Policy editor.

I have the update and only had a problem after downloading and installing the Folding @ Home app for disease discovery. I had trouble booting up where the screen would go blank and the computer would keep restarting. I finally got it up and running and then uninstalled the Folding app. Now it seems to be ok.

No brother MS added delayed installs to the April 2019 update to include Home also.
But you are correct in that before then it wasn't possible on anything but Pro.

Ah, then you never went a year or 2 without doing a fresh install. Or at least a refresh install. That's a good thing for you.
Look, I have a "house full" of computers" (5 up and running,) each of which is tasked separately to a different purpose. The front bedroom, i3, I use as a DVR, It's hooked to the web, but only as much as I need to download the Media Center program guide. I used Samsung's migration software to transfer the original Windows install, then I was still able to pick and choose any updates it needed, since it's running Win 7. It's a "Clarkdale" and carries the original Pro 7 install.

Hell, I run XP SP-3 on my "erotic art hunter", and haven't had to reinstall that, despite treading into websites that angels won't go. (Unless of course they are unclothed).

Anything that, "might accidentally be downloaded", gets scanned with AVG.

The only reinstall I actually needed to do, was due to that fact I bought an off brand SSD, which didn't come with migration software, and that was well over 2 years ago.

All the safety nonsense about not updating, is in large part propaganda. Browsers and AV/ malware programs should be adequate and your first line of defense.

Microsoft is herding all current Windows 10 into a corral they can't escape. Make no mistake about it, and the giveaway is the forced updates.

Once upon a time, you could pick and choose between "necessary" and "optional updates.

Which means the horse dung full screen "Get Windows 10" computer hijack malware, was still optional, if you were smart enough to read what the hell you were installing

Damn, I just loved that.

We are all getting that you are a M$ shill and/or someone who assumes that because you have no problems, no one has problems which is fallacious in that it is an over-generalization.

And it is a nice red herring of yours to side-step the real issue as discussed in the article is that M$ frequently puts our crap with WinDOHs 10 updates that break stuff sometimes to the point of making a PC unusable. Most people have no clue as to how to recover from the mess that M$ frequently makes of WinDOHs 10 updates.

And of course, your answer - Reinstall. ? M$ is the greatest.

As I said before, pause updates or not, there is no guarantee that M$ will fix any breaking changes in that so thoughtfully included delay your updates "feature."

Holy crap they are everywhere.
And this is what happens when you just try to help someone.

The cold hard reality is, that none of us here are so ploddingly stupid, that we aren't acutely aware you can always "reinstall Windows".

So, with that in mind, is does take quite a bit of hubris, to pass off, "just reinstall Windows", as anything resembling "help".

M$'s stark reality, is that they no longer have leave to bang up customers $300.00 for an OS, to go in a $100.00 tablet. Enter forced adoption,of Win 10, and all the opportunities for sales of their own software it presents. If existing aftermarket software isn't compatible, they could care less if their forced updates brick machines.
