Lightyear announces the world's first production-ready solar car

Ok lets see here:
Average US commute: 41 miles round trip
Average miles per gallon US car: 25.7
Average cost per gallon: $5.53
Gallons of gas used per day: 1.59
Cost per day: $8.82
Cost of Car: $169,000.00
# of days to break even on cost of car: 19,156
# of work days in a year: 250
# of work years: 76.62
Now if gas prices go back to "normal" double break even time.
Makes perfect sense to me

I was excited to see manufacturers like Toyota looking into Hydrogen. Then I found out they're making it by burning fossil fuels!
We're doomed...
That is only one way, there's also:

Electrolysis: An electric current splits water into hydrogen and oxygen. If the electricity is produced by renewable sources, such as solar or wind, the resulting hydrogen will be considered renewable as well, and has numerous emissions benefits. Power-to-hydrogen projects are taking off, using excess renewable electricity, when available, to make hydrogen through electrolysis.

Renewable Liquid Reforming: Renewable liquid fuels, such as ethanol, are reacted with high-temperature steam to produce hydrogen near the point of end use.

Fermentation: Biomass is converted into sugar-rich feedstocks that can be fermented to produce hydrogen

AGREE 100% --- HOWEVER, 41 MILES ROUND TRIP! FOR THE AMOUNT OF $ TO BUY IT? To me, it is totally a waste of money. I'll buy a new Lexus & new pick up & still have money left over.

Yeah, but since there will be only like 10 of them sold, in just 20 years its price as a collectible may rise to $2 million. Not only you won't lose any money, you'll become rich.

Of course, in 20 years a cheap phone may cost $500,000...... if you believe in inflation.
