rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 C:\windows\inf\ie.inf ...type into RUN..hit enter...see if that helps.
Thanks for the help... but could you please be more precise on the procedure.

What should I type exactly in Start menu/run and to fix which bug?

I guess I really can't get around the trojan until I fix the system restore thing... right?

By the way, I'm using Norton AV 2002... if that can be of any help.

Thank you

Replace Norton...!

Norton AV sucks! I've fixed SOOO many people's computers that had Norton, McAfee, AND even both at the same time, AND they all always have malware, trojans, viruses, worms, etc.

Please go to www.lavasoftusa.com, download, and install AVG AV free edition. Then unistall Norton (don't forget Live Reg). AVG finds viruses that Norton and McAfee don't.

***VERY IMPORTANT***
Before you scan for viruses, spyware, etc,
1. open My Computer
2. Click Tools, Folder Options, View
3. Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files (Recomended)

Run all your scans and then go back and check the option again. This will allow you to detect/clean viruses in these normally unseen/unaccessible areas.

Type sfc(space)/scannow into RUN...see what comes up....
I did it a couple of times (like I don't understand the 1st time)... hasn't change a thing.

Anyother idea?

I'm ok with the idea of flushing Norton... but will the other one see trojan? I always thought that trojan were not visible for AV.

Will I need to turn system restore off? cause I can't, I got a rundll32.exe problem. (probably corrupted).

If you say that the lavasoft AV is good, I'm ready to try that... I've already heard of bad experiences with Norton. But for the last few days, I've tried so many things with no results. Everytime people are asking me to search for a file or another that would be the problem... I don't have them.

I've been searching the net to fix that bug for a few weeks now, and all the tools I've tried never showed what helping people were expecting to see corrupting my system.

*I Mistyped* AVG antivirus is at www.grisoft.com. www.lavasoftusa.com is for Adaware.

Regarding the corrupt dll error you're getting, I would search MS's knowledgebase.

Try to quote the ENTIRE error instead of just the beginning, when you're posting it in here.
Hi

I noticed the mistype when I got on lavasoft site an found nothing else the adaware, wich has not fix the bug yet. I found AVG free edition on the net. I tried it and kinda like it but I went back to SNORTON when I saw it was not getting my emails... I'll probably study it later to configure it correctly but for now I really need to solve 1 problem at a time and AVG did not solve my bug after a first scan...

I finally fixed the system restore problem with a procedure I found on the MS Kbase.
I had to reinstall the sr.sys file in the windows/inf folder to fix the sys restore bug.

For the message error, I'm already translating it from french so it wouldn't be exact anyways...

Finally I ran HJT again, with sys restore off. I'm now sending you the log file to see if you, generous helping people, can see something wrong.

If you can't find anything wrong, I'll stick to firefox. I've been using it with no problems for a few days now, I must say I like it very much.

With sys restore thing fixed, maybe IE6 itself is the problem... or maybe am I saying stupid things...

Thanks again

download spybot search and destroy
this may help, I always run this before hijackthis
do search on internet for you DLL file there's website out there that has all of M$ dll's you can need. can't remember the cmd to load this
hate getting old

I've already fix the dll problem
Now, the only prob remaining is the one about the internet links not working on some particular sites.

It sometimes lead me to a blank page with "ABOUT: BLANK" in the title bar.

Thanks

Boot in Safe Mode.
Switch System restore OFF.
Press Ctrl/Alt/Del simultaneously, select Taskmanager/Processes, select the process (if there), click "End Process" for:
ViewMgr.exe

Next, UNinstall anything to do with this:
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe

Next, run HJT on its own and let it 'fix' if still there:
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www2.canoe.com/index.html
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe
O9 - Extra button: Messenger - {FB5F1910-F110-11d2-BB9E-00C04F795683} - C:\Program Files\Messenger\MSMSGS.EXE (file missing)
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Messenger - {FB5F1910-F110-11d2-BB9E-00C04F795683} - C:\Program Files\Messenger\MSMSGS.EXE (file missing)

When done, delete the highlighted bold files. When a directory-name is bold, delete everything in it, including that directory itself.
Boot normal. When all OK, switch System Restore back on.
