Lost Wireless capability on HP DV9000 laptop

Hi, all!

Our laptop, HP Pavilion DV9000 (Vista Home), is equiped with a wireless wi-fi card. Suddenly, there is no connection to our router, hence no internet. I went into the System, Device manager, to check the status. I could not find anything on the wi-fi card, just the standard network controller.

I tried to open HP Wireless Assistant program, it would not launch.

Can someone advise if it's a hardware problem, that the wi-fi card needs to be replaced?

Have you accidentally toggled the hardware Wi-Fi button/switch? Look on the front of the laptop. http://www.notebookcheck.net/uploads/pics/wlanik_02.jpg

Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention. The On/Off toggle in front is glowing amber, no matter which way I flip it.

probably hardware issue.. Cable could have came loose, could have shorted possible. If it's amber that means it's recieveing no signal from the wireless card. Also try uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers for it. If however, like you said about, it is not in the device manager at all.. Then it's more then likely a dead card.. You can try taking it apart and reseating the wireless card, don't forget to ground yourself(hold something metal..) before touching the parts of the laptop.

if your light is on, and you cannot see any signals, you have a hardware issue.
