This wireless eGPU claims to deliver RTX 5090-like performance over Wi-Fi

I believe you mean USB3.x. Thunderbolt is rather limited.
No, TB is significantly more cabals than USB. TB3 is effectively a better version of USB4.
It releases a port for other uses. What’s the point of a wireless mouse or keyboard or gamepad. Frees up ports.
Other uses like what? Your Bluetooth gamepad or mouse and keyboard that takes up 2 USBA ports? What else are you plugging in?
Everyone has different needs.
People have different wants. There is no need for a wireless eGPU and it’s just a worse version of a wired one.

I meant limited in distribution. Finding Thunderbolt on anything other than Apple or Intel’s cpu machines is very rare.

multiple SSDs, thermal printer, shipping scale, UPS, optical drive, tape backup.

As I said, you’re clearly not the target as you have no need for a Wi-Fi Direct eGPU. I can see a use for it.
I’ll continue watching this as time goes on. could pair well for many Mac users.

And you’re ignoring that USB4 is the TB3 spec just implemented poorly why?
multiple SSDs, thermal printer, shipping scale, UPS, optical drive, tape backup.
So you’re already using a dongle anyway.

You can’t see a use for it you’re just being a contrarian.

Thunderbolt supports USB. USB itself is separate from thunderbolt.

I have some Thunderbolt 4 hubs, if that’s what you’re asking.

The Mac Studio is a rather small computer. The external GPU keeps the system cooler. Currently it occupies a port.
I’m not playing cyberpunk or whatever day-one game is out there. I’m rendering video. Offloading CAD design and compression algorithms.

This won’t work for AAA games. It will work fine for general computing via WiFi direct.

Again no. USB4 is built off the TB3 spec. It’s just TB3 with less stringent feature requirements. The data throughput and tunnelling is the same z

So why wouldn’t you just plug an eGPU through a TB port?

You don’t need the system cooler it barely spins up. You can also just use the TB port. Also why would you ever use a Mac for CAD? It’s probably the worst use case for it.

General compute doesn’t need anything more than an iGPU.

Again no …
USB is a public standard controlled by the USB Promoter Group.
Thunderbolt is a proprietary licensed standard owned by Apple and Intel.
they are separate (semi-compatible) standards.

So why wouldn’t you just plug an eGPU through a TB port?
I do. As I said. And I wouldn’t mind freeing that port with a Wi-Fi Direct unit at a similar price point.

You apparently never did AV1 encoding.
Or large-dictionary software compression. Etc. My Mac gets more than warm, hence the egpu.

Also why would you ever use a Mac for CAD
Personal preference. Like this entire thread. I dislike windows. I absolutely despise the GPL and the community’s hatred towards commercial software so dodge Linux. I like Unix and have multiple computers with BSD variants including my Mac.

Clearly, you are not the target for this product. Clearly I am. I think foldable phones are a joke. But I’m not going to say someone should make them if some small percentage of people will buy them. Electric cars? Blah.
I would buy a Wi-Fi Direct GPU. It’s really that simple.

And Intel gave them the spec of TB3 to be implemented as USB4 royalty free.

What’s the point? If you’re using a dock you’ll have ports spare anyway.

“Warm” doesn’t mean “loud”.

Personal preference doesn’t really matter when you just can’t get industry standard software on a platform.

No you’re just being a contrarian and not a good one at that.
