Malware: System Alert Balloons

Status
Not open for further replies.
I have been getting system alerts in the task bar for several days; the system alert balloons seems to coincide with opening drives on my system to browse folders.

I used SmitFraudFix a few days ago, but the problem of these annoying system alerts balloons (that automatically start Internet Explorer whether clicked on or not) still persist.

To save some time, I have ran SmitFraudFix again (in safe mode) and HijackThis v1.99.1. Here are the logs:

Hi Bolt

Welcome aboard.

First uninstall your old HJT get the new one frpm the 8 Step process below.

Do the TechSpot 8 steps:
Skip no steps (do not install another virus scanner as you already have one).

Most importantly update MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSptware!

Before you scan with SuperAntiSpyWare do the below:

SuperAntispyware extra config

After installed double-click the icon on your desktop to run it.

Update the program definitions.

Click the Preferences button.

Then Scanning Control.

In Scanner Options make sure all boxes are checked except #3 Ignore System Restore.. are checked:

MalwareBytes extra config

After update but before running
Click settings and confirm all are Checked.

I repeat Update these 2 programs.

Run them and attach their logs.

Do this correctly and we will make a short job of this!

Mike

EDIT: Bolt attach the logs not post in thread.

Hi mflynn,

Thanks for the welcome, and your time.

Ok, I have carried out the following tasks since I last posted:

a) Uninstalled the old HJT.
b) Downloaded and installed the latest version (currently v2.0.2) from the 8 Step process link you gave me.
c) MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSptware! have been updated to the latest definitions.
d) Followed your instructions and configured MalwareBytes and SuperAntispyware! accordingly.
e) Run MalwareBytes and SuperAntispyware! - the attached logs are in this post as per instructed.

ETA: MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSptware! found infections, and I have cleaned them and rebooted.

I keep getting issues trying to attach files. I'll have to make another post, sorry.

HJT logs must be attached
I have attached the HJT Log for you
I have attached the MBAM log for you

Bolt

In MBAM you exited the program without selecting Next to delete the baddies.

Update MBAM and SAS before running every time. Do the additional modifications below.

SuperAntispyware extra config

Update the program definitions.

Click the Preferences button.

Then Scanning Control.

In Scanner Options make sure all boxes are checked except #3 Ignore System Restore.. are checked:

MalwareBytes extra config

After update but before running
Click settings and confirm all are Checked.

I repeat Update these 2 programs.

Run them both again and attach their logs.
