What just happened? Mark Zuckerberg has achieved a lot during his long career in the tech industry, but yesterday saw the Meta CEO achieve another first: he is now the second richest person in the world, having passed Jeff Bezos after his total net worth reached $206 billion.

Things weren't looking rosy for Meta in 2022 as it suffered a downturn following the pandemic boom period. For the first time since its inception 17 years ago, the number of global daily Facebook users declined as the company's shares fell 24%, wiping $200 billion off its market value.

But Meta's shares have skyrocketed since then, climbing from $90 in November 2022 to $582.77 today. The price has increased over 64% during the year-to-date period alone.

Meta's success has seen Zuckerberg's fortune climb to $206 billion – he has a 13% stake in the company – putting him ahead of third-place Bezos by $1 billion, though the Meta boss is still $50 billion behind leader Elon Musk.

Rank Name Total net worth $ Last change $ YTD change Country / Region Industry
1 Elon Musk $256B - $5.97B + $27.1B United States Technology
2 Mark Zuckerberg $206B + $3.43B + $78.1B United States Technology
3 Jeff Bezos $205B - $2.62B + $28.2B United States Technology
4 Bernard Arnault $193B - $2.38B - $14.2B France Consumer
5 Larry Ellison $179B - $1.14B + $55.9B United States Technology
6 Bill Gates $161B - $508M + $20.4B United States Technology
7 Larry Page $150B - $64.0M + $23.4B United States Technology
8 Steve Ballmer $145B - $213M + $13.9B United States Technology
9 Warren Buffett $143B - $1.32B + $22.9B United States Diversified
10 Sergey Brin $141B - $61.4M + $21.2B United States Technology
11 Amancio Ortega $114B - $482M + $26.1B Spain Retail
12 Michael Dell $110B + $991M + $31.6B United States Technology
13 Jensen Huang $107B + $3.42B + $63.5B United States Technology
14 Mukesh Ambani $107B - $4.29B + $10.5B India Energy
15 Jim Walton $103B - $50.0M + $30.2B United States Retail

One area of the Bloomberg Billionaire's Index where Zuckerberg does lead is the year-to-date change. His wealth has increased an enormous $78.1 billion this year, almost $15 billion more than second-place Jensen Huang, whose fortune has jumped $63.5 billion on the back of Nvidia providing the majority of the advanced AI hardware being used today.

As is sadly so often the case, Meta's turnaround was prompted by a streamlining process that saw 21,000 people let go from the firm. Investors welcomed the cost-cutting move, sending the stock in the right direction.

Meta has reported better-than-expected sales this year, and is pushing hard into the generative AI field with its own Large Language Models and chatbots – the sort of stuff that investors love, even if most of the public isn't as enthusiastic.

Meta's stock has reached an all-time high following Meta Connect 2024, which had huge focus on artificial intelligence. The company also revealed several new tech products, including a pair of AR smart glasses capable of projecting holograms directly into a user's field of vision. Jensen Huang called the Project Orion glasses "a big deal."

In the meantime people starve and sell themselves into armies and slavery across the world. Disgusting billionaires. Thieves to put it bluntly.
Maybe you're reading the signs of times wrong.

These "hilly-billies" live in a different world. The rules of common people don't apply to them nor do the laws, be it the ones in economy or those of justice.

Is it fair? I don't know. Do I envy them or wish I had what they have? Not in a billion (pun intended) years.

Pro tip: the world is a dark place. Always has been. There has never been any country, at any time, that has eliminated suffering. giving money to people doesnt fix their problems, if the literal trillions of aid to Africa have not made that perfectly clear.

Or you can just not use his product? I know I dont, and most people I know do not use facebook.

When I was young and ignorant, I actually respected Mark. Everything changed when I noticed he put a piece of tape on his webcam. Things just got worse ever since. The 3 letter agencies were actually working at their office and some employees finally came forward about what was happening behind closed doors. I was banned for posting a WSJ article which actually came true that was about if B/I/d/e/n wins, he will shut down the pipelines and food/gas prices will go up. I was also banned for answering a friend's post on how I overcame C/O/V/I/D. Furthermore, I was banned for posting an Australia Sky News link to H/u/n/t/e/r/'s laptop which is still up and running by using the word MARCO POLO. I was banned for posting positive news about Trump. I was banned for saying, If B/I/d/e/n wins, this country will never be the same again.

I also posted a comment from my 2nd job which was working late shift for a small
s/c/h/o/o/l. I was told to unlock every door, so a third party that worked for g/o/o/g/l/e can set up tripods and used a red laser like scanner to scan hallways and rooms each floor took about 3-5 hrs to scan. I asked the person who he was subbed out to, and he wouldn't provide details. Other employee's that worked with me got no answer either, Then about 2-3 months later we had C/O/V/I/D. I can go on forever, but I don't want to draw too much attention.

I can’t believe I don’t have to pay for Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. Thank you Mark. Thank you so much on behalf of 99.9999% of the population.

You bring peace, joy, connection, knowledge, friendships, and bonds between people and cultures.

They should build statues of you in never city. You’re the greatest guy ever lived.

You're much smarter than most , props to you for seeing through the mainstream media BS . Those who speak truth will get banned , it's unfortunate but 100% true . Only those that preach the mainstream narrative are allowed to flourish .

The Ngreedia guy is up there too, cool. I guess he aint as important as he thought he is if some social platform owner pwns him lol.

On a side note, I cant wait not to buy an RTX 5090L edition (for lame) for like 4000 euro. xD

Giving money to people solves most of their problems. These who says otherwise are clowns on payroll. World could be a much brighter place if thieves wouldn't be praised for being thieves. A person who doesn't have money to fix his teeth and a billionaire who don't know what next yacht to buy live on different planets.

Remove the billionaire and corporation is enough. No patent, all opensource software AND hardware. Everything would quickly become like heaven. Small companies flourishing everywhere using open source universally available tech, money would get its value back as most of the printed money is in billionaires hands creating inflation. Giving money to people except to those who really can't work, has never been a good option.

This lampshade-looking creep is every bit as morally poor as he is money-rich. There's balance there.

I closed the account I'd had since 2005 continuously (and continuously used, since I care big about low-powered people being able to broadcast), when I discovered there was something I wasn't allowed to send in a private message. this character string banned.

I def don't think he's the greatest guy who ever lived but your comment is awesome, and I do agree his platforms have been a bastion of actual communication in the past. let us be the curators of what we read! let us choose whether it's good or evil! and let us speak. facebook used to be that.

"Rich people don`t get rich by giving away their money" - this has been true for centuries of human existence for the majority of rich people. Gates, Jobs, Brin, Zuckerberg are part of that majority so I do not understand how people think this is "news" or a surprise. The "news" or surprise would be about the few rich people who dont;t follow the rule like Buffet, Munger (recently deceased) or the other few that straddle the rule like Musk. It is totally surprising to me that Techspot people consider this "news"; I can only ask you to spend more time in getting a education in the history of humans - easy to do now on the internet.
