Netflix shows off Henry Cavill as Geralt, internet isn't convinced

Why it matters: Back in September, the decision to cast Henry Cavill as Geralt in the Netflix adaptation of The Witcher raised a few eyebrows. Yesterday, the streaming giant released a screen test showing the Man of Steel actor as he’ll look in the role, and it’s fair to say that most people have been left a little bemused

First of all, there’s been a lot said about that awful wig, which is more ‘cheap Halloween prop’ than part of a multimillion-dollar production. And as many have pointed out, Cavill looks somewhere between Christopher Lambert’s Raiden and Legolas, but he certainly drinks that potion with some aplomb.

When it was announced he’d gotten the part, some people, myself included, questioned whether he was a bit too young for the role. He does resemble a youthful, very clean-cut Geralt here, lacking the familiar scar over his eye and stubble/beard that’s usually associated with the character. But the Netflix series is closer to the books than the games, so maybe a less grizzly, more smoldering Geralt is what they’re going for.

It’s important to remember that this is only a screen test. Cavill will probably look different in the final version of the show, especially if Netflix pays attention to the internet’s reaction. But the clip has certainly spawned plenty of funny tweets and memes.

Other actors from The Witcher series, which is set to arrive next year, include Freya Allan, who takes on the role of Ciri, and Anya Chalotra as Yennefer.

For a guy who has been up against monsters for almost a century, he looks 'boyish'.... or is this the great-nephew?

Edit: The eyes do not 'have it'.

Maybe a little beard would help. He looks like Geralt when he was a baby, not too bad tho.

Geralt : Battle hardened warrior who has gone through extreme training from childhood and who has been through a hell lot of wars, assassination plots and not to mention for whom killing monsters is like brushing teeth.

On the other hand, the guy in photo looks so innocent... Maybe lots of scars will fix it.
Hey Netflix, try beating him with a throny bush.

The series is based on books that took place decades before the games.

Needs the face scar and to look more scruffy. Do that and he should look fine for the part.

My thoughts exactly, he could really use some contacts.

Not too concerned about the scars though as long as he earns one or two as the series progresses.

Nope sorry Cavill but you are not the type. Needs some "snake eyes" for this role, his eyes are too "friendly"

Way too young to pay the Witcher we know, he is a decent actor but I do not think he is a good fit for the Witcher.
