Network connections

hi i have two desktops which having two different o/s that is windows7, xp.

now i want to connect both pc's using a croosover cable? can you explain me briefly.

IPV6 needs to be enabled on XP so you can work with Windows 7. To access shares on Windows 7 you could use Web Alias Access to get to them. That's what I was doing using IIS 7.
 
A quick tip, when you feel you have set the two PC's up on the same network just confirm connectivity with a ping. That way you know if something doesn't work later on its definitely not connectivity but more a software setup issue.
