I would say, whether or not AI is a net positive, hinges mostly on the impact of the data centers used to run it. The AI itself is easily a positive. The power consumption, noise, etc. not so much. And the effect it has had on the price and availability of consumer electronics is disturbing (at best).

The power stuff will get sorted soon - it’s already at the point where companies will be building their own power plants when building data centers. The supply chain will also catch up within a couple of years…

It is not an actual medical diagnosis. But it is real. There was a thread on another board recently about a misprinted dollar bill. Someone came in ranting about how it's due to Trump and Musk cutting budgets. Except that the bill was printed when Trump was NOT president. That's "TDS." Think of it as being colloquial...

The USSR was never "Socialist". It was "Communist", and ruled by dictators by any other name_period_full stop. They went through the pretense of calling it "Socialist", which it was in name only.

As I said, the Scandinavian countries are, "Social Democracies"** Look it up. The Norwegians are purported to be the happiest people in the world. BTW, Norway is a "kingdom", with a real king, and not some braying jacka** who imagines himself a king, as we do here in the US.

Not sure building a bunch of new (poorly regulated) power plants is so great. But you are correct about supply chain issues.

Soooo, small question there, how would you or anybody else define super-intelligent ?? because I do believe people are not actually intelligent, we think we are but this is another story.
Any AI will be limited by the information that it is trained on, so whatever it generates is within those parameters, plain and simple. At most it can do things faster because it remembers more.

Here's the problem. You're absolutely correct when you say we're not as smart as we think we are. However, we appraise our intellect n many different categories. Memory, sum of knowledge, accomplishments and so forth. All of that is pretty much archival.

Moving forward, our courses of actions are dependent primarily on our moral codes and belief systems. We consider those influences part of our intellect. For example, you might consider yourself smarter than me because you believe in god, and I don't. I might consider it righteous to steal, if it was presumptively, "for a good cause". You might disagree. The simple ability to be able to tell, "right from wrong", couldn't be ignored

So for AI to be, "truly intelligent" in our terms, it would need a moral code and a belief system. You end up in a quandary trying to make a simple decision about who you could depend on or trust, to instill values into an AI. Or, it could invent its own sense of value

If that were to happen, It really could decide that "biological existences are nothing but a nuisance".

One thing I'm absolutely certain of, is that Humpty trumpty should never be allowed to teach it about telling the truth.

Communism or Socialism, call it what you will, has no bearing on the government practiced in the Soviet Union_ full stop.

Now, if you had read the Communist Manifesto, (which BTW I have), it basically expounds on, "power to the people", and, "one for all and all for one", except the business ruling class, ("the bourgeoisie) who were to be disposed of. (along with many classes above them. In short, anybody that wasn't dirt poor, "the proletariat", had to go.

If you take into account that the Soviets were governed by a murderous dictator, Josef Stalin, you can't say that Socialism or Communism was ever truly practiced in "Mother Russia"

Given that Socialist values include universal healthcare, which both Canada and Norway, among many others practice, you can't say their governments are "Communist". You can categorize them as "Social Democracies", and they do practice some of the values espoused by pure Socialism.

Another thing to keep in mind, is that Karl Marx never wrote, The Socialist Manifesto. IIRC, and I do, his book was called, The Communist Manifesto. I recall vividly struggling through it. Not because I didn't understand it, but rather because that a**hole repeated himself about every 10 to 12 pages. It was relentlessly boring. But then I was accustomed to living in an (alleged), Democracy, and perhaps couldn't identify with his struggles.

Anyway, my point is that Communism and Socialism are not synonyms. Nor are Communist and Socialist.

tRump, in a fit of lying the other day about his budget deficit, blamed the dispersal of covid stimulus checks entirely on Joe Biden. When I know for a fact that the first round of checks was dispersed by him. Reason being? Well, he absolutely, positively, had to have his signature on them.
