Nintendo used PS3, 360 footage to highlight Wii U capabilities

Uhm, if they will be using the current gen ATI, it would be a lot more powerful than what xbox and ps3 currently have. And they did do pretty well for themselves with last gen graphics and a unique innovative interface. They just might do it again. MS migh follow a year or so later.. but Sony is shooting for 2014. The true limitation will be space to store the software. I wonder what medium Nintendow will use... will they stick with DVD, LD DVD... or will they go blu ray... although blu ray would up the price, it will future proof the system. If they can manage a faster disk to avoid having to install games that would be great too. I don't mind load screens (but they should be streaming by now), as long as they stay under 40 seconds max.

I think that the system design is lacking though. The very none discript looking case for the Wii U... I'm hoping that is really not the final mold. The controller looks plain enough, but the unit is really plain as heck.

Everyone says the games look PS3/Xbox 360 level, if the system was capable of doing more, they would have demoed that. They are doing the same thing they did with Wii, using last gen tech hoping people will buy it as current gen tech per new gimmicks. This most likely will be Wii type successful with Wii type graphics meaning it is behind a generation AGAIN.

When the system comes out it will be doing what the pS3 and Xbox can do... since that is where developers are at with the technologies... if you look at the first games to hit PS3 and Xbox 360 compared to what they have today... there is a big difference.

So if the ATI GPU is the current gen it should have a bit more than what xbox and PS3 can do. The PS3 has an Nvidia 7000 series enhanced GPU, and the xbox has about what ATI had around the same time... so even an ATI 4000, 5000, or if possible a 6000 GPU has a lot more processing power and features. Plus, the CPU should be relatively new and benifiting from the manufacturing shrink.

From what they are saying, it should be what the Wii is to the PS2 possibly a little more. We have not really seen what next gen will look like... even Epics URE 3 tech update has not shown that much visually come pared to the visual step from the last gen. In any case they are aiming less for keeping pace with Sony and MS on the graphics power, but rather innovate and change the market... which they pretty much have done. They are trail blazing in regard to taking the market to new places, as usual, and Sony and MS are riding on their coat tails. They take the risks... since it is their primary business they have to becarful where they invest and keep the price down to sell units with less possibility of loss.

Regardless of the what GPU is in it, the result will be graphics that are of this generation not the next.

I'm not interested in buying any of the current gen consoles because my PC is so much more powerful and the games look and sound much much better on my PC. I hope they port all the good ones to PC.

Well over time I have accumilated all. I was a big PC gamer, but the developers are encouraged to do less on the PC. Sure the graphics and configurations are superior... but some games released have left us out in the cold some times... depending on the games I will get for the best platform. For example exclusive titles that may never see they day of light on PC...

The only thing left for me on PC is Valve games =) and FPS, and any PC only titles. Everything else, I will get on a console because they tend to have the tightest implementation where control is concerned. How a game plays is my primary concern, Graphics and configurability come second for me.

Games For Windows Live games that support controllers have Xbox 360 controller support as being mandatory. I haven't seen one yet that doesn't port over the same Xbox 360 controls from the Xbox 360 version. I love using my Xbox 360 controller and for me, it's like playing the uber version of the console one.

I used to have a ton of consoles and games and sold them all years ago. Now I can emulate all those games for free and it looks and sounds better as well. ^^
