No system sounds

Hi i cannot get any pc sounds like when i turn my pc on and off etc sounds play when i play a CD or DVD or any music files on my pc if i go to control pannel / sounds and high light a windows sound the play button stays blank, there are no conflics with the drivers etc any idea what could be wrong ?

sorry mailpup, yes all other sounds play ok, the CD and DVD players play sounds ok, music on files on my pc also play, its just the windows sounds that dont ??

hi i have found out that in 'system information' under components the audio codecs there is none listed, even though windows media plays ok, on my sons pc there is quite a few audio codecs listed ?? i have down loaded a windows codecs pack from microsoft but still no codecs are listed could this be my problem and if so how do i put it right ?

What sound card / integrated sound do you have?
Go to Start > Run > DXdiag and see under "Sound" tab if you have any integrated sound or sound card, when you find it out tell us and we will help you then

hi TIMEPARADOX i have a MSI mother board with a intergrated sound running C-Media 9739A audio chip, i have down loaded upgraded drivers for this, all sounds work in a directx test fine, now when i go to System inf and under components/multimedia/audio codecs i find that there is only one listed and that is from MSN, so i then down loaded a codecs kit, again this did not work. Does this help ?
