Norton Int Security crippling my computer

I' m running windows 98SE (I know), on a 160g pentium3 with broad-band access and firefox.

Int Sec 2005 with antivirus updates through feb 2009.

I would say I can't surf with it installed. The browser freezes , e-mail freezes, there are 14,000 dat files

Please help, what can I do. I have to remove the program in order to surf at all and that is dangerous.

Any advice is much appreciated. Is mcAfee better.

Dump Norton and get Avast instead, then see how it goes.

I also suggest you have a read of this thread for removing Norton.

Norton is well known to be one of the biggest resource hogs around and personally, I wouldn`t touch it with a barge pole.

Avast is the way to go especially since your are still using Windows 98. Hard to find a new programs that are compatible with Windows 98, thus avast. It is also a very good Av program.
