Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Review: Overpromised, Underdelivered

The fact that TS gave this a 60 kind of gives away how the 9070 series is gonna look.

Edit: as much as people hate to accept this, Frame Gen is the way forward. Everyone is moving towards it. Sorry, get over it.

Frame Gen is the worst thing that happened to games since like forever. It allows developers to be lazy with their optimization, allows PR departments to 5070 = 4090 lol and in general allows customers to be mislead about both hardware and software.

Sorry, we should absolutely not get over it.

Sorry, unless you are a developer/publisher you don’t have a choice. Regardless of how you feel about how bad the tech currently is (and I agree), it is what it is. You’re free to turn it off if you want, at least.

Certainly not impressed..
because of the mediocre performance, the uncertain number of ROPs, and of course the actual price offered..
if you are not really desperate for a gpu, maybe it is better to wait for a better gpu (from Radeon or from the next generation) or buy an old gpu at a much cheaper price..

hopefully this does not happen to the Radeon camp..

The excuses you make to justify the lies that LJM told on stage. As Steve from GN showed, with FG the 5070 is an unmitigated disaster.

I don’t remember making any excuses. Just an observation about the direction the industry is heading in 😊

Nobody is forcing you today to use FG, turn it off if you don’t like it. If its existence is that terrible to you, boycott those devs who make games that are so terribly optimized that their games require FG to run.

Very easy to boycott games that are badly optimised. I never preorder and I never buy games that are newly released. Others can be the beta testers, I'll happily wait a year for bugs to get fixed.

GTA IV taught me that patience is a virtue and I have it in abundance. Sadly others (I assume you considering how you try to force us to accept fake frames) miss this virtue when it comes to games for some reason.

I'm thinking the 9070XT will be the go to GPU for a while at this price point (600-650$)

I'm really bummed out because of how bad this generation turned out to be. I really wanted to upgrade my laptop, but now I'll maybe wait a while longer (for some decent price drops)

Oh no, you caught me, I’m secretly behind all of this 😔 The massive VRAM requirements, the noisy RT, the Frame Gen, it turns out I (the apparent user of force here) contacted nVidia and all the big AAAs over a decade ago and laid out all this nonsense for them well in advance!

Gimme a break.

Exactly how bad does a GPU need to be before it gets a genuinely low score? 60/100 is mathematically above average, amid frequent uses of words like "underwhelming" and single-digit percentage improvements over previous-generation hardware at similar or lower price points.

I can buy a working and road-legal car for less than the price of this card, but I probably won't be able to play contemporary games on it a year from now because it's crippled from birth. That's a terrible buy and not something anyone should be spending their money on. Your extensive research seems to confirm this is a genuinely bad product, so please have the guts to wear it on your sleeve and give it a representative low score.

We're past the the mining days when you got away with "it's a mediocre card, but it's the only one you're likely to be able to buy at any price, so we've adjusted the score to reflect that". This card is DOA in a market with plenty of better options and should be scored well under 50/100 to reflect THAT.

Now this sounds like the right model for Nvidia not to actually make many of. Sadly, due to AMD's participation at this tier, they'll probably waste many more wafers on these than the actually useful cards.

Good work Techspot on flagging the problems with 12GB of RAM, if the media puts enough stink on it maybe we'll see more reasonable memory levels in the next generation.

It's wild how much VRAM games need these days. I remember asking a question on forums years ago about whether or not going from a 256MB MX5200 to a 128MB N6600 was an actual upgrade. then I got a 7800GT(AGP). After that I got a X1900XT and then I bought TWO 8800GT's based on the G92 dies. $250 for top level performance, those were the days.

Wondering if Steve checked to see if all the ROPs were on his 5070? Maybe that's why his model didn't perform so well. I mean, if even FE models are missing ROPs and every 5000 series model has this issue, why not check?
