We are all at fault for the high prices on what we buy, if everyone would stop paying ridiculous scalper prices for their equipment all those good for nothing scalpers would go out of business quickly and prices would get back to normal much faster, I was in the Process of upgrading my very old and outdated desktop when the pandemic hit, my system now has an AMD 1090T CPU, AM3 Motherboard, 12Gb of DDR3 memory and an XFX 570 8Gb GPU, I was going to upgrade it all, but now I am going to wait, WHY you ask? because I for one will not spend my hard-earned money on anything that has an overinflated price due to GREEDYNESS, I will wait patiently for the prices to return to normal whenever and whatever that my be.

Are you a hardcore gamer? Probably not so the wait should be much easier for you than it is for that category of gamer. I agree with you somewhat. But the selling prices are somewhat inherently tied to supply and demand. The return to normal may not come. In that scenario gamers like me, casual to light, would hope for market saturation of more powerful used cards in the future. A 2060ti for me would do just fine at the moment. At the right price of course.

Not sure if I clarified this on all threads but I am actually assuming both cards will be at least double MSRP near launch and I don't expect the 3050 to be much lower than about 500 usd for all of 2022

The only part I wasn't expecting was them for them to give it 8gb of vram, I thought they'd keep the gimped 4gb version but you're right: they seem to just want to sell even more 3060 dies to miners even if they're not up-to-par with the bigger card but can still hash a couple steps below.

I do, however, suspect that we‘ll see an even more pronounced 3060 vs 6600 XT situation where cheaper on paper will turn into noticeably more expensive in real life, or in this case instead of being $50 more expensive based on msrp, it might end up $150 more expensive.

Those are 3 of the top 5 cards and they have the audacity to say we're pretending to allow you alil bit better card to play with [performance test will show the facts] and that is maybe if the miners don't steal most of them and the price isn't several times more than msrp.
Yes I'm stuck with one of those 3 cards and have been looking for more than a year but availability and price have kept me from improving my video card. We are going to be surprised if RT cores are used at all because of the low specs, they are only marketing hype.

On a more serious note, no one seems to be addressing the elephant in the room. How many compute units (or Cuda cores) will it have?

Speak for yourself! I've been holding off on two builds - one a midrange and one a higher end PC because of the ridiculous nature of the semiconductor market right now.

Unfortunately, I think it more likely that there are those that will see still inflated prices on used cards as a "great deal" and will, in essence, continue the trend of over-inflated prices. People are starved for "value", and used cards, usually, represent value. I just hope that my 980 Ti still holds its "value" in the used market. I might be able to sell it for more than I bought it for used.

The RTX 3050 will outperform the RX 6500 XT by 15-20% the latter of which will come with only 4 GB of VRAM making it too little for some 1080p games at max textures. The RTX 3050 on the other hand should perform close to a GTX 1070 or 1660 S given the specs. I think I would opt for the 3050 even for $50 more if I had the choice. Of course, it's kind of moot considering that you really won't have the choice any time soon. The 3050 will age better at 1080p due to the VRAM.

I think Nvidia and AMD did a very poor job at protecting their hand: It's likely that AMD knew Nvidia was preparing entry level RTX and DLSS and well, they can't get there on tech but they tried to just gimp their card out as much as they could so they could launch for 50 cheaper. Makes sense since they've known about 3050 laptop for a while so the 6500 xt is their "Better than nothing" response to the 3050 which basically manages to undercut the price...Along with a heavy cut on performance too.

I think the 3050 basically wins this fight as a no-contest: AMD literally can't match this product at all right now they decided they couldn't fight in this weight category at all and just went lower but far worst than the price reduction would indicate.

You are right, at launch the RTX 3050 at $250 will be a much better value than the RX 6500 XT even at $200, the 6500 XT will not perform that much better than the 5500 XT, maybe +10% tops, but my guess is more like +5% while the 3050 will have performance that should come in right around 1070/1660 S-Ti levels and perhaps even a bit higher. Also, the 4 GB of VRAM with the 6500 XT just is not enough anymore at 1080p. You need at least 6GB even at 1080p. With DLSS, you will probably even get by with 1440p in games that support it. I really doubt that the RT will be usable in many games though.

You are assuming that the 3050 will only cost $50 more - in which case I agree that it would be the more appealing option.

But the 3060 is supposed to be $50 less than the 6600XT going by msrp but in reality it‘s $100-200+ more expensive.

So real life price wise, the 3050 might end up being considerably more expensive and have a worse availability. This could be due to it being much more miner friendly, plus it‘s based on the same die as the 3060 which nVidia does not seem to want to make in a meaningful volume.

You can't argue any points based on speculation. Performance and price can't be assumed and argued for or against until we see what they actually are. If they both sell out right away or if thy are available, but only at 3x MSRP it doesn't really matter. There is no point is arguing which one is better without availability and price.

That was reasoning / guessing based on precedent.

Taking into consideration that
- having 8GB vRAM makes the 3050 both more expensive to produce at current memory prices and more miner friendly
- it‘s based on same (larger) die as the 3060 which has poor availability and high prices
- the 3050Ti is a more desirable card vs. the 6500XT
- 6500 XT has a small die made on TSMC 6nm
- It‘s a card that will only really sell below a certain price point, also due to many cut features
- comparing current ‚entry level‘ cards‘ msrp vs street price (3060 vs 6600(XT)

I think it‘s not unreasonable to assume that the 6500XT will see both better availability and a larger price difference to the 3050 than msrp would lead us to believe.

It can all turn out very different but where‘s the fun without some at least semi educated guessing / speculation. We‘ll know soon enough.

This thing will probably perform about half as good as a 3070, maybe a bit less even. But should be enough for 1080p60, maybe even 90+ fps in newer games

I presume the RTX 3050 should be LHR, so that should dampen demand for whatever that Nvidia and partners have allocated to gamers. Cutting VRAM to 4GB is not going to be meaningful because similar to the artificial LHR limitation, Nvidia and partners can sell 8GB versions to miners from their backdoors if they really want to. As long as Nvidia is ok with the idea, it is just a matter of using 2GB DDR6 chips instead of 1GB ones during production. So there is really no foolproof way to stop miners from snapping up most of the cards.

This was so me. It's also like dating. Some people get desperate but certain things I won't cave in.

I had almost the same CPU but 8GB DDR2 yes RIPJAWS DDR2 Couldn't play a few games due to SSE 4.2a or whatever it was but a few game developers added the patch so we can use our CPU in those games. I was lucky to build a Ryzen 5 3600 but my RX560 card finally gave up and got a RX580 is blows the doors on the 560 like 2-3 times! Just to be careful I down clock the card because if that card goes I'm screwed and don't want these " FILLER CARDS" like on this story.

The PS5 and Xbox Series X are only 25% above MSRP if you want one, but GPUs are 2-3x MSRP. It's miners for sure. There is proof that NVIDIA sells cards direct to them in bulk, not giving regular consumers a chance to get a GPU.

I've looked for evidence and there isn't any that NVIDIA sell directly to miners. There was one article that looked at how many GPU's NVIDIA made and they speculated how many miners bought video cards from that number. People took that to mean NVIDIA was selling directly to miners, but that was never mentioned.

There was this guy I remember in particular who claimed to have a deal with NVIDIA to buy bulk GPUs for mining. He made his twitter private after his posts went viral. He then backtracked and said that most of his cards were bought from "scalpers"
