Office PC Question

It's pretty hard to believe that such a powerful computer is unable to do the job for you. The stipulation that these iffy sounding add-ons be used also surprises. Surely this isn't a typical requirement for doing a doctoral thesis at a reputable institution of learning?

Bazz,
I was reading through the thread and realized that I hadn't listed the other programs such as adobe acrobat with several pdfs open, the web browser open with numerous tabs, norton, and sometimes videoconferencing software for meeting with committee members and dept chair. Although the video conference can be handled.
I am interested in how the Ryzen handles it I have just about made mind up just to build another i7 machine without the ridiculously priced gaming house. The price difference in the $100 range. Not worth it to waste all the time and effort for $100. Top notch regionally accredited school with rigorous standards. Those addins are industry standard professionals writing tools.

"industry standard professionals writing tools" 90% of the time make up for lack of skills in creating custom stylesheets.

They also make your original source documents non-portable; ie they can't be edited or printed without the same "tools" :sigh:

Certainly take the easiest path here, but just understand you're painting yourself into a corner. Best wish.

The final project is a standard .docx file that anyone with Word can edit if need be. I really appreciate the feedback.
Yes, I would expect the .doc or .docx format.

Don't know if you've played with typography {aka fonts} and opened a doc on a system where fontX is missing - - you get at alert to the fact and notice of a default substitution. Now depending upon lots of factors, the page layout can go all wacky and foul out even the pagination.

Enough here, just be cautious

Thank you, jobeard

Well thank you everyone for your input. My conclusions are as follows: The 7700 and 1700 had no issues whatsoever in running the needed programs together. Only the older 6500 struggled. So the moral of the story is, once Coffee Lake comes out in a week or so, I will reevaluate the Ryzen 7 vs i7 ( I do like my KB Lake) and move on from there. Again, I want to thank all of you for the input, made me definitely think.(y):)
