Office1.cab file is corrupted

I guess I'm lucky. I have installed Office XP on my multi boot setup and my daughters XP pro PC several times without a hitch. I normally install from a folder on the PC so I don't have to put the CD in every time I install a patch or service pack. Only thing I can suggest is to try using a cd-rom lens cleaner cd.

Just had the same problem driving me nuts for a few days, but thanks to the board got it installed by copying to HDD. Great board!

I'm another newcomer to this forum, so please be gentle with me too....

Installed Office successfully on my son's pc a year ago. Recently I installed a new HDD in said machine after a head crash(??). Installed XP Pro as before, and tried to install Office from the same CD as before - result was office1.cab corrupt. I tried all the tips (e.g. copy to HDD, install from networked disk drive, tried my backup disk) all to no avail. Eventually gave up (see below). Could the difference be that I installed SP2 on the new HDD, but probably not (can't remember for certain) on the original?

I've just bought a brand new Dell laptop (XP home edition + SP2), tried to install Office. Lo and behold, exactly the same problem.

Anyone got any other tips?

In the meantime, I tried www.openoffice.org. Downloaded & installed first time. I've only had a very quick look at the Word and Excel lookalikes, and they're just fine, they appear to read and write Office-compatible files with no problems. For a freebie it's fantastic!! Thank you Sun Microsystems.

I came up against this same problem myself. I tried everything in the Microsoft Workarounds with MSConfig, flatcopy, only installing 1 component, etc. and nothing worked.

Finally, I hit on this idea: I took a computer that MSOffice installed on without the office1.cab error and put my CD in that computer. I then shared that computer's CD-ROM drive on my home network and installed Office on the destination computer over the network from the CD-ROM drive of the computer where I knew it worked.

Result, the error was bypassed and Office installed correctly. You just have to find a computer where it installs okay. I used the CD-ROM of my laptop to install office on my Tower. Hopefully this will work for you too. I suspect the problem will appear again when adding additional components, so I would suggest a full install.

I have done this for a few people and it has worked 100% of the time.

same problem for different programs

I am new to this forum

For about a week I have the same problem with different programs (DXP, Photoshop CS, Corel etc).

I've tried all the above plus:
Advanced Cab Repair program (nothing)
I installed my driver to another pc and the installation complitied saccefully (using my program cd)!!!

But my driver does not work with my pc...

I will try to intall another drive at my pc but I'm not so sure it will work...

Thanks. Great forum!!!

I recently got a new laptop with XP Pro. From the box I tried installing Nero 6 and this failed during installation. I then tried Photoshop Elements 2 which failed. Next came Office 2002 Professional which gave me the afore mentioned .CAB error. Office 2000 suffered from the same problem. Eventually I got Nero 6 to install over a LAN connection. I am going to try the same method with the other software. I think this proves the CD/DVD burner is caput. Going to return on Saturday. A bit disappointed as I thought this kind of error was very rare. Guess we're all a bit special....

I was having the same problem today! Tried to install Office XP from Install CD. Got halfway through the set-up process and it stopped for the same error, "OFFICE CAB 1 is corrupt". Tried copying the Office CD to the hard drive and running install from there. Same CAB 1 error. I made sure system was showing all files and folders and protected operating system files and tried to install once again from hard drive. I got the same CAB 1 error. Tried to install from the CD again, same CAB 1 Error :dead:

I did an "explore" on the CD. Found the CAB 1 Zip file and coppied and pasted the Zip file to the copy on the hard drive and left it over write the Zip file in the folder on the hard drive. Ran the install from the hard drive again and everything installed with no problem. Don't ask me why but it worked and now I am happy. :p

Office1.cab trouble

First here...
www.billynda.com
second...
I set this up to help because I went through 'you know what'
because Proplus.msi was driving me crazy/crazier...

Office1 is a 200MB file in it's zipped form...It may take awhile to download...

If you have the CD my fix for Proplus was to copy the entire Office CD to
the hard (C) driive...
I created a folder called 'OfficeXPCD' and put it in there...
Then lead things to it...

What was really annoying was proplus is on the CD and inaccessible...

I have beening fighting with this stupid problem for the whole day. Tried everthing so far! Now I am posting the BEST SOLUTION I found!

Simply use MSCONFIG to restore you computer to pervious date, then you are done.

Ya da man! It simply worked after I copied the contents to a local folder on my laptop running on Vistas. Thanks to all who gave me a simple solution to the nagging problem of having my 'office1.cab' file corrupt.

Beautiful Workaround

I did an "explore" on the CD. Found the CAB 1 Zip file and coppied and pasted the Zip file to the copy on the hard drive and left it over write the Zip file in the folder on the hard drive. Ran the install from the hard drive again and everything installed with no problem. Don't ask me why but it worked and now I am happy. :p

I had three different CD installs fail on me with the corrupt CAB message showing, but I tried this workaround and Voila!, in like Flint. Still don't know why the problem exists. Thanks heaps. gene
