Only 4 colors?

I have a Pentium 4 2.0 Ghz computer I am trying to get going as a starter computer for my sis-in-law.
After installing a fresh Windows XP home edition, I can only get 4 colors at 400 x 800 resolution. Also it doesn't show any way to change the video adapter, shows as VGASave. I tried to add a new video card but says the drivers are incorrect

What video card are you trying to install and what motherboard are you trying to install it on? What does it have now? video card? or is the Display adapter integrated into the motherboard?
