Klipsch promedia 5.1 ultra since ~2003
Man this article is old. But my set died.Logitech Z-680's I purchased in 2003. Still fare really well. Happy as peach.
I'd think that the market for headsets would be higher - since speakers will generally echo if you don't have one...A very important question in view of Covid and the need for video conferencing. If you're not into gaming or super stereo speakers but have been left embarrassed a few times, when you lose audio on platforms like Zoom a speaker goes to the top of the list of priorities. Laptop speakers aren't up to much so I was using a portable speaker with a desktop. One is a small bluetooth logitech device and the other an ancient Altec battery powered speaker with an audio lead. I had infuriating occasional issues with both so wanted something cheap, cheerful and very easy to use. I found a very handy little speaker made by Amigoeu on the internet. It's mono 3w, a compact cube shape and when plugged in shows as usb 2.0 device if you click on the sound icon in the task bar. It is said to be widely compatible with other devices. So far a great little speaker.
hehehe... since so many people wear them, "silly" kind of doesn't matter any more... kind of like those "silly" winter hats - they're not so silly when it's negative 40...You'd look silly on zoom with a headset. In my meetings several people have hearing aids for whom headphones are no go. A small speaker is proving fine for me - providing it can be relied on to work.
So did mine. Shortly after posting this. Guess I jinxed myself. I have whatever the latest wired 5.1 set of Logitech systems are. First 3 units died within a week or two of each other. Running them of a ups as well as a surge protector. 4th times the charm it seems.M
