Open Forum: What desktop speakers do you use?

I still have and use my trusty Z-5500s. Bought them when they first came out and they are still going strong.

A pair of Cerwin-vega XLS-215's, driven by a Yamaha P700S (700w/ch @ 8ohms). Also a 100w/ch stereo Onkyo driving 4 x Pioneer Andrew Jones BS-21bookshelf speakers, with 2 Boston powered subs - I like a lot of bass...

Hehe, good question. Had a Logitech X-230 system for almost a decade, and now I am rocking the insane Fluid Audio FX8. I must admit they are a bit overkill...

Klipsch promedia 5.1 ultra since ~2003

I came SO close to getting those multiple times, since I love my Klipsch Promedia 2.1 setup so much and it's arguably the best 2.1 speaker setup ever. But I read about the massive issues with the amp dying on that set. Glad to see yours lasted. The amp issue is what kept me from getting them.

Just upgraded to Presonus 4.5 studio monitors. These things are awesome. Right now they are fed by my mb sound card. I have a Shiit Audio dac coming today! Can't wait.

Hello,
I used Klipsch R-15PM – Best Overall this is a speaker that offers the most exceptional sound clarity. The features that it boasts are consumer friendly and every gamer who invests in this stands to benefit. There are around five options for input alone. They include analog RCA/phono, digital optical, Aux, USB, and Bluetooth. This is a very versatile speaker set that you can find today.

A very important question in view of Covid and the need for video conferencing. If you're not into gaming or super stereo speakers but have been left embarrassed a few times, when you lose audio on platforms like Zoom a speaker goes to the top of the list of priorities. Laptop speakers aren't up to much so I was using a portable speaker with a desktop. One is a small bluetooth logitech device and the other an ancient Altec battery powered speaker with an audio lead. I had infuriating occasional issues with both so wanted something cheap, cheerful and very easy to use. I found a very handy little speaker made by Amigoeu on the internet. It's mono 3w, a compact cube shape and when plugged in shows as usb 2.0 device if you click on the sound icon in the task bar. It is said to be widely compatible with other devices. So far a great little speaker.

I'd think that the market for headsets would be higher - since speakers will generally echo if you don't have one...

You'd look silly on zoom with a headset. In my meetings several people have hearing aids for whom headphones are no go. A small speaker is proving fine for me - providing it can be relied on to work.

hehehe... since so many people wear them, "silly" kind of doesn't matter any more... kind of like those "silly" winter hats - they're not so silly when it's negative 40...

I use the onboard S1220A audio via optical out into an Pioneer VSX-531 AV amp and connected to it is 5 x 100W 20 year old Technics speakers and a Sansui self powered 100W Sub perfect audio for a small area

Man this article is old. But my set died.
So did mine. Shortly after posting this. Guess I jinxed myself. I have whatever the latest wired 5.1 set of Logitech systems are. First 3 units died within a week or two of each other. Running them of a ups as well as a surge protector. 4th times the charm it seems.

I use a tried and true Altec Lansing ACS340 in white-ish. Yes, it's 2.1 but I don't care. I'm not watching movies on my PC, I'm listening to music or playing a game. It's all that I need, and this set has been working well for me for over a decade.
