Paramount now owns Warner Bros, HBO, CBS, and CNN, and Netflix is out

You're preaching to the choir here. Modern Trek is like watching bad fan fiction. If I wanted bad fan fiction, I'd go to fanfiction.net.

The characters have no depth, they're like 2D cardboard cutouts. The plots don't make sense and given the decades of lore, it's aggravating as all hell that they have no respect for the past. And just don't get me started on The Burn. Sigh.

And then there's how there's no optimism. It's like the writers think the Humanity is sh*t, has always been sh*t, and will always be sh*t. That's not Star Trek! Star Trek is about a hopeful future.
New Star Trek is just more Star Wars IMO. The '5 year plan' is l-o-n-g gone!

Good, now that the anti-wokists have taken over WB, expect a glut of high quality anti-woke content to start flowing and the movie/tv/game industry can finally start to heal.
10 Symptoms of the "Woke" mind
1. You read books, not burn them
2. You embrace science
3. You are willing to change your mind when new information becomes available
4. You understand that most issues are black and white
5. You believe in TRUE equality for ALL peoples
6. You like to share
7. You embrace cooperation'
8. You respect others' rights
9. You believe that culture and the arts have value.
10. You care for the planet and ALL of its life.

IF "woke' is the opposite of "fascist." I am superwoke, megawoke, McWokee, kentucky fried-woke
woke-a-holic, wokerino, wokity wokity WOKE!!!!

The people who complain about mega studios are the same ones that complain about prices (see below).

I completely welcome more mergers. Mergers bring subscription groupings.

I’m personally tired of $6.99 here, $29.99 there, this price with adds that price without.

Bring on the mergers and content bundles.

That really wouldn’t be a bad price. That is, if I got access to all the content.

If the streaming service combines it all completely, hey I’d pay more!
I’d rather pay for everything in one place, even if the price goes up a bit.

Amazon is super frustrating with its billing structure for streaming. Every channel bills separately.

Give me a mega block and a single bill date and let me bundle it the way I want (Disney has the right idea there).

Sadly, you're right. Star Trek isn't the Star Trek that I remember. Long gone are days of episodes like "Duet", "The Inner Light", "In the Pale Moonlight", and "Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges" just to name a few. You know, episode that really make one think.

I stopped watching ST TV after Enterprise, with the exception of Picard. I simply didn’t find anything to hook me on those new shows.
Never had a problem with any of the moves including the Kelvin timeline though.

Star Trek has always had “woke” stories long before the term was coined. From interracial relations to interspecies relations to LGB stories as far back as the 90s.

I agree with that. However, it wasn't as heavy-handed as it is today in the sense that it was woven into the plotline. Today? It's a sledgehammer.

I hate streaming video services. Spotify has a much better model. On Spotify, the creators get paid if you actually use it and you have access to everything. Streaming video gives you a few things that hardly change from month to month and the creator gets paid just for it being there. Terrible model. Spotify should make a video service and all the others would die off. I would not pay for a music service if they did it the way video works. Video services think you should keep paying forever with hardly any content. So dumb. People just run out of stuff they want to watch and then cancel and move to something else. Maybe they'll come back later when some new stuff is added. You never cancel your Spotify because you ran out of stuff to listen to.
How do you finance a tentpole using that model? The problem is that entertainment investments, in general, are very risky. That's why you see superhero movie after superhero movie and stars getting paid ridiculous salaries; it's how producers hedge their bets. Music is much much cheaper to produce, so the risk is small and spotify takes none of it, it just sucks off the teat of the risk of artists, not unlike youtube. I agree the current model is ****, just stating the problems that spotify can not solve.

I’m not so sure. The whole T’Pol Tucker thing was about as in your face as it could get on breaking through a (real and in-universe) taboo. But I don’t know

I haven’t watched much of the newer stuff… as I said. Have another nearly day-long international flight end of the year, maybe I’ll binge Discovery or whatever else is out there, lower decks etc.
I can’t sleep if I’m moving: car, train, plane. Can’t take a cruise, never sleep. Good time to see just how “woke” it truly got.

I’ll get to my point in a moment. The US/Canada and Europe have totally destroyed the monetary principle. Hyper inflation.

I will never stop yelling shut up at *****s with no on-the-ground experience crocodile tears blabbering about “poverty” in other countries.
Yes some countries are poor by any standard. Many are not. I have both family and friends across the globe. There are very well-to-do countries where $1000 a year is far from our view of poverty.

Streaming is expensive because rights are expensive because films are expensive because blah is expensive.
Many countries put out multi-million dollar box office films for a fraction of what we spend. China, India, Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Brazil, on and on.

Oh no, modern Trek is way... way worse.

Let's be honest, WarnerBros being bought by Paramount is a much better situation than WB being owned by Nexflix.

I’m the odd ball because I stick with what I said a decade ago. Hell, two decades ago.
My opinion has not changed one bit in all over 20-some years.
I don’t care who owned who.
I want the least amount of conglomerates fighting out for the most consumers to give us combined packaging for a single price. A la cart

Not so many news outlets or mags tackling the facts but; the loudest film anti-merger criticisms this merger are the same that demanded choice with cable.

Like them or not for politics NYP and WSJ are very good at tracking and proving historical documentation.

The 50 most “published” complaints in print be it paper or online.
12 were non-party companies. (Cry. buy is too)
22 were part of Netflix (reasons obvious)
6 were self claimed diehard communists against any money making at all. (No comment needed)
The rest were nearly even ultra-far-left or ultra-far-right world-don’t-care talking heads. (Again no need comment lack of brain cells)

If Amazon could figure out how to get its d our of its own a … bill me everything once a month not every few days $30 here $1.00 there my station subscriptions.
2 have single billing in MOST countries.
