PC freezes when I try to play movie clips

Every time I try to play a .wmw or .wav file - usually from an email attachment my PC just freezes and I have to restart

It is fine playing clips from EZines or You Tube etc

I have a NVIDIA GeForce 6150 graphics card

I have tried updating/rolling back the driver etc but with no change to the problem

Any help appreciated please

Have you tried re-installing or upgrading your media player?

Because I do not have the original XP disk I with the serial number on it I cannot upgrade from Windows Media Player 10 to 11. I have tried playing the clips with Real Player and VLC but it gives the same outcome. A frozen PC
