Picasa Photographs

Hiya,

My partner and I have been together for 8+ years. When we first meet I was 200 miles away so we used to chat via Googlemail. We also downloaded Picasa for our photographs, which was permanently signed in.

My partner's hard drive crashed and he's had to have a new hard drive put in. Now he can't remember what password he used to sign into Googlemail which is also used for Picasa and doesn't have a backup of any of his photographs. According to the Picasa forum, unless you have uploaded your photographs into web albums your photographs are lost. When we try to access his Googlemail account saying we can't remember the password, it comes up with millions of questions which we are sure we never set up. Unfortunately, my partner has relied upon his memory for his password and can't remember it.

Is it true that unless you have made web albums, you have lost your photographs forever? We always thought Picasa was virtual and that you couldn't lose your photogrraphs.

Hmm; Not sure. I've used both the Web access and Picasa albums.

Fight to get access to the gmail account first and then Picasa will just follow.

In your browser, open the options, find the History & Cookies, and
either Delete All Cookies or view Cookies and delete those associated.

eg: login.yahoo.com, mail.yahoo.com mail.gmail.com

It's alright - we now know that Picasa DOES NOT save your photographs - they get saved on your hard drive and my partner Keith lost all his photographs as a consequence. He took the hard drive to two independent IT specialists to see whether they could recover anything from it but it was all lost. A valuable lesson learnt - BACK UP ALL YOUR PHOTOGRAPHS!!

Didn't your browser offer to save the password? Tools>Options>Security>Saved Passwords>Show Passwords & click ok. ?

those are just saved in cookies, so a browser cleanup or delete all cookies will wipe'm clean

Ok, I understand that, but this "Now he can't remember what password he used to sign into Googlemail", is why I made my suggestion.
I have a dozen or so passwords so if I forget one, my suggestion is how I find it.
If I'm mis understanding something, sorry.

If he associated his phone number with gmail, he can logon at gmail, select password recovery, then reset password via phone number. a code will be sent to the associated phone. input the received code and password reset is now possible.
(this is how I recover my hotmail/live/outlook/yahoo accounts)

I've heard of that but havenever had to use it. Thanks.

Even if my partner managed to sign into his Google account, it wouldn't help because, as I said before, your photographs are not stored in Picasa - they are stored in your hard drive and if that crashes as my partner's did, and you haven't make a backup of your photographs and anything else that is precious to you, you lose the lot!!

If Picasa doesn't save our photographs, which we know it doesn't, then there is no need for us to know how to get Google back. I am not watching this topic any longer.
