Pioneer DVR-K14 trouble

I have this particular DVD-ROM drive in my sony notebook and here lately ive been ripping my CD collection to put on my ipod and the drive has been getting really slow. Im currently burning the second disc of Rolling Stones - Forty Licks and it has taken 2hrs. 5min. and 15secs. and thats just copying the songs not even began to encode them in mp3s yet. can a lot of CD-Ripping, about 200 put a lot of strain on the drive? I was thinking that I would have to replace it. just wanted to make sure before I did it. Thanks before hand for the help.
